Here is my story

My husband had a stroke just weeks before the Presidential elections in 2016 and was diagnosed with locked-in syndrome. We went through so much trying to stablize his health. I cared for him for 3 years at home until i simply could not continue. Since then, he was in a private care facility that was not able to give proper care. For the last four years, he has been in a small care facility that specializes in clients like my husband. I was so relieved to put him there.

As for myself, I was very depressed and found that thinking about moving to France gave me some hope for my future. I began to study French and have made some progress, but I have a long way to go.

Now the Orange Man is on his second term in office. It is a freaking nightmare. He wants to cut off Medicaid and Medicare and Social Security. All of which we both receive. I pay more than 50% of our combined income ( $5500 monthly) to qualify him for Medicaid. You have to pay whatever is over the poverty level. That leaves just enough to pay my bills.

I have been protesting 2 or 3 times a month since March. I am scared what the MOFO# might do next. I may be arrested for protesting and end up in prison. He loves our misery.

I just hope I can leave the USA before too long. Of course, that means my husband would have to pass on before I can leave. Not what I want as I love him. I visit him everyday.

I don’t recognize my country anymore. I have lost my patriotism even though I am protesting. I worry for family that will not leave.

Hopefully, France will still allow Americans to move there when I am ready.

Hello Tracy and welcome to our group.
My wife is American so I can fully understand your comment about no longer recognizing your country and losing your patriotism. Let’s hope that the mid-terms will enable Congress to suppress the excesses of the Executive branch…

Welcome and sorry for the health issues.

I come from Quincy, Mass. of a very Republican family, but like you I have lost all recognition.

It is not Trump per se that is the only problem - it is those who allowed him to get into the position to be elevated to where he is now - the voters and to an extent, the fathers of the Republican party who put him there.

If you have the right criteria, you should be able to sttle in France. I hope it goes well!

I have family there and have actually visited though quite a few years ago.

Tracy I am so sorry for your situation, my late wife had 3 ministrokes and ended up with vascular dementia and I bless our luck every day that passes that we made the move here in France (from England) before it happened because I can’t imagine treatment and care anywhere in the world better than we got here. All still in our own home as well.

You are very welcome to our friendly group and I hope that you can have a good outcome very soon. Keep in touch because you will have many questions when you finally make the move.
