HMRC Self assessment form SA109

Hi,

I’m doing my (very late) SA as I have recently sadly inherited a property in the UK and need to declare the rental income.

I’m confused by form SA109 which deals with residency, especially whether I need to tick the box to claim personal allowance under double taxation.

I’m tax resident in France, obviously. The rental income is far below the threshold for UK tax so I doubt HMRC will want anything from me.

Is there anyone here who can talk me through it?

Thanks in advance.

TC

Yes you tick that box. My UK tax file is now packed away for our house move so can’t really tell you more than that.

It’s not HMRCs finest form, being quite confusing and over-complicated in the view of some professionals as well. If you’ve other SA109 questions, don’t hesitate to raise them as there will usually be several on SF who have battled with it and who will happily weigh in with thoughts…

Thank you!

I realised I was making a mountain out of a molehill.

Hopefully I’ve done it correctly and next year it will be a breeze.
