Hello,
I’m not in the Challais area, but my father is. He is a permanent resident with all his relevant paperwork in place and he would like to see a doctor. However he can’t get to a doctor’s surgery, but nothing is urgent enough to need the emergency services. Can anyone advise me, or post a number for the relevant services there?
Thank you for your help!
Pip
Welcome to Survive France, Pip.
If it were me, I’d make contact with a local
Infirmier libérale. There is a list on the Ameli website here:
https://annuairesante.ameli.fr/trouver-un-professionnel-de-sante/infirmier/16-charente-chalais
If he already has an MT they can advise on which infirmiers work with them regularly.
If he is having a problem locating a doctor,he could start with a video call with a doctor at a Pharmacie,if it is general stuff, you can request one that speaks English and they can issue prescriptions.
(During normal hours his doctor’s surgery should be able to tell him about home visits.)
If he is a permanent resident then presumably he is signed up with a GP - médecin traitant? If he doesn’t know the out of hours procedures then the first step is to phone the surgery which hopefully will have a message on their answerphone explaining what one should do out of hours and if they have a médecin de garde.
If that is not possible then next step is to find number for local médecin de garde. These change - ours is 3966 but yours may be different. Google name of place and medecin de garde.
If that also not possible then there is a national number 116117 that should direct you.
Your other alternative is to use a private service like Qare.fr which can get you a téléconsultation with a doctor very quickly. But he needs to be able to do this on his computer.
Thank you all for your help! I’m immensely grateful.
