Hello. I have a hotmail email account - it is now, I believe under the name ‘Outlook’.
I use this as my main email address from my home computer.
I have recently started working somewhere that has its own computers. I cannot access my Hotmail account on my works computer, because it asks for passwords that I can’t remember.
Also, unlike most people, I don’t use a smart phone (so opening this as a suggestion is a non-starter).
I guess I’m asking how (from my home where Hotmail works fine), can I retrieve the password(s) that I need ?- I think I might need either/or an Outlook password/ a Microsoft password.
I don’t think you can. You’ll need to go to your settings and set a new password. Don’t forget to make a note of it…
OK Thanks. I’ll try this, but where do I find my ‘settings’?
Many thanks to both contributors. I ‘think’ I’ve done what’s required - whether it’s enough to get me successfully so that I can see Outlook when I’m at work, I will only know next week!
Glad this is sorted - for the assistance of others who may be in this situation, if you are in the habit of using a web browser to log in to your mail account (as opposed to a dedicated Mail app) then logins and passwords may be stored in the browser and can be retrieved from there.
In Firefox for example, it’s under Preferences / Privacy and Security.
This assumes of course that you allowed your web browser to save the login details, but many people do, and if you didn’t you would have had to memorise he password so the situation wouldn’t arise!
Yes indeed - I use 1Password.
As the OP, I need some follow-on advice.
I worked today in two different places.
In the first I correctly gave the password, and was allowed access to Hotmail/Outlook
In the second workplace I gave the same password, and this time was refused entry . I think there was some sort of message like ‘suspicious activity’ (when I was simply trying to use a second 'new machine ’ in a day). Very frustrating, as I feel that I need to get this problem sorted.
Perhaps you should consider 2FA on your account…
