I look like a hobbit.
I always do. I thought they might shrink with age, but they’re a resolute 46.
The skin around my ankles area is so tight I feel it’d simply rip if I moved too quickly. I’m told it’s a side effect of blood pressure meds and heat. That’d square with my experience.
I drink a lot more and asked my doctor for a diuretic that works with my hypertension pills. When the skin gets very tight, I take one per day - and it works beautifully. Couple of days and my feet/ankles are perfect.
That’s good news, anything that reduces the discomfort and swelling has got to be welcomed. Fortunately, I only get it in continued extreme heat (more to come in future years? ) so maybe a week a year. Once they told me what is was and nothing more serious then I was happy to simply put up with it. I wouldn’t want it for longer though so you have my sympathies.
Great if your feet remain young like that.
I have no trouble with my feet as I haven’t worn socks since 1999. Even wearing walking boots for the dog outings isn’t bad but I do change into airy slip ons after the return.
Sliders are your friends at these temperatures.
Deffo never wear Crocs clogs other than to go to the postbox. Kiné told me off when he saw I had some as they not only do not support feet bones but cause all manner of sweaty infections especially athletes foot as the plastic does not breathe. Since having both bunions done and toes re-aligned in 2023 I kept up the morning routine of slathering both feet under and over in Nutrogena deep penetrating lotion, they are soft and supple and wrinkly like a baby’s feet since then and no hard skin on the heels either so am pleased to show them off.
Were you advised to put your feet up when you sit, watch your salt intake and maybe get a foot pedaler?
Not as I recall, no. When I went to the doc’s with it, I got referred to a cardiologist. I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry.
My son wore Crocs to do a half marathon!
His feet must have been so sweaty afterwards, hope he gave them a good soaking and drying. They never fit though so how did he keep them on as even those with sling back straps are not tight
If these are the things I think they are, rubber slipons with aeration holes and straps that can be on top or behind the heel, these are what I swim in, and they have never slipped off even when doing a fast crawl.
Except that nurses and chefs who are on their feet all day wear them
Well that’s their decision but I would say that proper crocs may be better than the plastic supermarket offerings for a few euros, for the feet. They seem more plastic mouldings than the silicone versions. I go by what the kiné told me and being a foot professional he should know.
I think professionals like them as can be thoroughly washed/sterilised
Yes true. I did visit the actual Crocs Store in Nashville Opry Mills last summer and they now have quite a selection of shoes of all shapes and sizes compared to a few years ago, some even have high heels!
When I trained for ebola screening in Sierra Leone, along with the medical scrubs came a pair of blue anti-static crocs, standard issue to medical lab workers. They’re still cool and comfyish.
They were never cool, oh you mean in the temperature sense ![]()
