The one thing Brexit might have done is reduce immigration (“you had one job”), yet it didn’t - it simply moved it from the EU to the rest of the world. Given that xenophobia drove at least some of the Brexit vote I can’t help a feeling of schadenfreude knowing that EU migrants will be replaced by people who are, by and large, more obviously “foreign”. I really do hope the UKIP supporters choke on their Weetabix over that one. :rage:

It’s interesting that immigration to the UK from the EU was falling before the referendum - possibly because of the ‘hostile environment’, but more likely I think because economic development in Poland etc curtailed the ‘push’ factors. Brexit seems to have done no more than continue established trends until mid 2019.

But ultimately, the UK needs immigration because of long-term structural shortcomings in education, training and employment practices - the results of short-termism in both government and business, and pof ublic service under-funding. So the ‘pull’ factors, distributed across many sectors from care to agriculture to highly-paid and qualified professions, are still there.

See French Medicos are predicting fourth wave likely soon here in August/September.
I think travel restrictions and uncertainty is going to be with us until spring next year at least

Certainly there has been an uplift in numbers in the last few days so could be the start of an escalation - and Delta is now a large proportion of cases in France.

So, given that France is fully open again and only 37% completely vaccinated it seems likely.

Brits in France are being discriminated as, if they have been doubly vaccinated they will have to quarantine in UK although doubly vaccinated Brits returning to UK will not.
What double standards.
It just shows that Brexiteers still rule in the BoJo Cabinet.

We are not joining the EU digital Covid certificate. Not sure if this is for purely ideological reasons or technical ones - my suspicion is the former.
The good news is that there are some moves towards the mutual recognition of the EU and NHS apps so the situation might be temporary.
