Was it a proper gîte, rather than granny’s old house they rented from time to time? If it was that is awful and you should also make a fuss and also inform the tourist office and marie that there is an unsafe property being rented out on their patch. (Which could put pressure on owners to settle to).
If it wasn’t you should also inform the marie, and local tax office as possibly doing this illegally.
Presumably, this ghastly experience is one reason why you asked our advice about renting out your own property (with external areas requiring accro supports).
You posted on SF recently about renting a “gite” with an unsafe area supported by Acrow props (quite a coincidence). Either you are the owner of the unsafe gite, or have rented one. If you rented, you are absolutely right to ask for a full refund, sounds like a horrendous experience (ex gite owner). If you are the owner do the decent thing and give the client a full refund.
Oh my goodness, our lack of wifi and no bread knife pales into insignificance compared with your experience. You poor things! What a Christmas.
I do hope you get resolution. I think @JaneJones suggestions are excellent.
Where did you find them? Are they advertising on one of the rental platforms? If so, it would be worth informing them - this goes way beyond just a negative review. These days the platforms are more careful about the quality of their advertisers.
Thank you Sue, I think any issues affecting one’s valuable holiday time should be mentioned in reviews. I’m only holding back until my dispute is dealt with then I will give reviews on the advertising site, Trustpilot & the like.
