How warm do you keep your home?

Lol :joy:

I’ve only got my collies here to let me know how it’s going….

If I ever cough or get a sneezing attack for whatever reason they gather round me looking all concerned….my pupster puts his front feet on my thigh and stares intently into my face….I have to put my arm round him and give him a love and he leans into me or puts his paws on my shoulders in a hug….I have to consciously not sneeze again so I don’t break the moment lol :joy:

That’s also part of my developing breathing technique :grinning:

16 overnight
19 during day
21 in the evening

I’ve even been known to wear a woolly hat indoors as well as everything else. Including same fleece as I would wear outside over the other 3 layers.

Does that make me ā€œwokeā€? I’ve always wanted to be woke

Does it cover your dreadlocks?
Won’t count if it doesn’t☺

I’ve no idea what ā€œwokeā€ is… but I reckon you know how to keep warm.

Fingerless gloves are useful as well - they keep your wrists warm but you can still type.

Trying to adapt to retuning home from the balmy Charente: base layer of long sleeved thermal sports T-shirt, then polo-necked T-shirt, then gilet, and topped by a cardigan. Nice and warm!

You are talking about the country which according to the Conservatory is so much warmer than SW England that pensioners don’t need the Winter Fuel Payment?

Ah … but… Guadeloupe and Reunion and Martinique and places like that are all part of ā€œFranceā€ - that brings the temperature up nicely  Perhaps some big fans across the Atlantic and Pacific could distribute the heat across the various parts of France?

This is a bit tongue in cheek, but when I stretch out in the evenings on the settee, two cats immediately latch onto me, like limpets, to my chest & midriff. Then two more spread themselves across my legs. No room for any more.

Amazing how much heat they give out. High body temperature. No need for central heating when I’m stretched out!

Gets a bit annoying sometimes, but they like my warmth as much as I appreciate theirs.

Bedroom is completely unheated, can’t sleep in a warm room. Feel real cosy once under the bedclothes even on cold nights. But will put a blanket over the duvet when it’s icy.

Technical question.

How is it that I can sit indoors comfortably, temperature 20°C to 22°C – no heating - wearing t-shirt shorts and sandals during summer, but not in winter when the temperature indoors is still 20°C to 22°C from central heating.

The air that surrounds me is the same temperature in winter or summer but I have to wrap up warm in winter.

Is it cold air radiation from outside, or what? Don’t understand the mechanics.

I think its to do with actually going outside into the cold and then back into what is a relatively warm house you were in previously in your shorts etc. I found the opposite in my house this summer which was cooled by the AC but once I went outside even for a few minutes in 38°C plus most days and then came back in, I was immediately glad of the AC. Its still pretty hot here currently so no heating needed and its impossible to sleep with the windows shut in the bedroom too. I came out into the lounge/diner this morning at 7am and the temperature was reading 22°C and that is with having the windows in both bathrooms and my bedroomdoor open all night. Hope it dosn’t get too cold over the winter and I shall be better off than previously living up north.

A lot may have to do with the height of the thermometer, plus direct heating from sunlight through windows. Cold air usually stays low.

Don’t think those suggestions are right, both, thanks. I’ve wondered about this for years.

As an example, I can sit at my computer indoors, for hours, naked, in summer, with the thermometer next to me at 22°C, while outside it’s 30°C. I don’t but could.

But even though the thermometer next to me in winter shows 22°C I need warm clothes.

Still puzzled.

My backup heating is a gas heater when electric central heating isn’t enough, or when my central heating electricity is cut off. I have an arrangement where I lose the central heating for about 30 days (not consecutively) during 6 months of winter, for a lower tariff throughout the year.

But I’m giving up gas.

So, am looking for a cotton & wool tracksuit for indoors + plus a woolly hat, hoodie & scarf & ski underwear for the iciest of indoor days. That might just do it!

Indeed it does, if its a ceramic tiled floor un-insulated then feet get cold, calves get cold and send a message that you feel cold even when upper body is warm. Underfloor heating at even a low levels sends a warm message to the brain saying you are comfortable.
Put your feet on a warm hot water bottle as an experiment.
