I Love Eggs but

…it is so inconvenient to fry them because of only having one detached hotplate and the need to use it on a work top and left there for ages to allow it to cool down before putting it back in its shelf, which means I rarely have them and even then I batch hard boil them in the steamer and use them mainly in midday salads.

So I was interested to see another method the other day which was to make an omelette but in the micro in stead of the pan. healthier and cleaner.

I tried it and it was a great success, whip the eggs in a bowl with a little milk and perhaps some cheese of choice then into the micro for a minute or so (they said less but I fancy with a more powerful machine) before taking it out several times to check that it was easily pulling away from the edges while still moist in the middle.

A great success so next day I added a bit more, chopped tomato and poivron. Tasted good again but my additions did overwhelm it a bit, maybe a little less of the additions would be good.

Then I thought, scrambled eggs, same method but taking it out regularly for more whipping. Just added cheese this time and the result was excellent so I think I will be on a dozen a week from now on, double the usual.

Finally, what about fried, or rather grilled? A paper liner in the high shelf drawer of the Air Fryer and set to Grill. Workable but needs improvement. The result was just like fried but it was difficult to persuade it out of the paper and during the process the paper ripped, so I bundled them out quickly before it made a mess and the otherwise perfectly cooked yolks were broken in the process. I am wondering if a drizzle of olive oil before breaking the eggs in might preserve their structure, my next project.

Not a single frying pan and hotplate was used in any of the above. :joy:

I’ve been making my scrambled eggs in a microwave for over thirty years. I also make my béarnaise sauce in the microwave.

So have I and in fact, had microwaved scrambled eggs for lunch yesterday. I also do melted cheese on toast in the air fryer as well, saves heating up the big oven for just a minute or three to do the same and if you line the airfryer with cooking paper, there is no need to wash up either. I prefer eggs microwaved as they end up fluffy and not slimy as done in a pan. One tip with microwaving is to remove the jug or dish when there is a little liquid left as it continues cooking for a bit and this will be absorbed when stirred with a fork.

I feel like I have been returned to the 80’s :joy:

Try using a silicone egg ring to stop it spreading, older egg white spreads.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I really wish it was possible.

Now that’s a good idea and I will try it, as for the rest, I haven’t washed the air fryer drawers since the day after it arrived and I got the liners, but it seems I was a bit late with my micro egg knowledge. But at least I have arrived, albeit a bit late. :joy:

A bit late with my footie knowledge too, just wondering why so much fuss is being made about a long distance runner leaving Liverpool.

My wife still has the silicone omelette maker for the microwave she used at work.

They’re getting Mo Farah in exchange, I believe he plays at right back.
