IBS Anyone?

Peppermint has long been a digestive aid. A small glass of Marie Brizard (mint) liqueur is great after a meal… hic :upside_down_face:

Just make sure that any pills or potions are for Menthe Poivrée not just any old Mint(à la new potatoes)

and a hot water bottle works wonders on a painfully-bloated stomach. My friend just hugs the bottle to his abdomen and curls around it. Takes about 20 or 30 mins and all is well. That was before he was given medication… but he keeps the bottle handy anyway.

Hope all goes well Bob.

Peter, go and see your GP, you don’t have to put up with the pain/misery.

Hi Lily, I don’t have too much pain except for some stomach cramps. Main problem is the unsettled tummy & intestines but mainly the increase in stress levels. I’ve had panic attacks / anxiety atacks most of my life but they seem worse at he moment. That I find strange because for the first time in my lfe I honestly don’t have a care in the world !
But my diet has changed lately so maybe that’s contributing ?

It’s a well-known antispasmodic so quite likely to help at least some IBS sufferers.

Not afflicted personally though SWMBO struggles a bit.

Has anyone tried a low FODMAP diet?

Only if the fodmaps are fresh !

Speak to your GP, please.

I’ve done all that Lily.

If you can highlight a major change in your lifestyle (such as the change in diet) that could well be the cause of whatever symptoms you are suffering.

Best of luck with getting it sorted.

Keeping a food diary helps. Use the calendar on the smart phone to record what you eat and then what the reaction is. It soon narrows things down. there’s also

  • a fairly good reference website with a food tracker app, so you can see what you eat when and how it reacts. After having my gall bladder removed, I can’t drink milk, cooked cheese is tricky as is heavy olive oil. I also have to make sure I get enough green leaves or green veg in my food to create fibre internally. the trick is making the food interesting, thats the challenge.

My wife has IBS. Google “fodmaps” there’s a whole spectrum of possible foods to avoid. Not the same for everyone. She finds that avoiding any onion, garlic, apples, pears and fructose plus a lot of wheat helps tremendously. But your sensitivity may be different. Fodmaps!
