One could  look at it that way - personally I’m looking at it from the “does it enhance the car in my opinion in a way which is worth £3-4k and an extra three month wait for delivery” - and the answer is no.

Maybe when I win the lottery.

Though it is interesting to note that, for the same money as the RS3 I could have a 2018 “approved used” DB11 with 21k miles on the clock, which is making me slightly doubt the idea of the RS3.

Not sure I could live with the petrol consumption of a DB11 though - official WLTP combined is 20mpg!

That’s probably why an eight year old car has only done 21k miles.

It’s interesting that I don’t think I could even use a card like the RS3 where we live without serious damage to wheels and suspension or having to creep around everywhere. We had a wander round Blenheim again this afternoon, and looking at some of the bourgeois-mobiles parked up with huge rims and paper-thin tyres made me wonder where the owners live.

Resale might be easier, though. At that price range I’d pay the extra.

We had a 240bhp one, so you can imaging the malus. It was a waste of money really for the number of times I used the extra oomph. Though I did frighten a few “performance cars” in my little truck :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Don’t want to is the operative phrase here as they have other, more profitable projects on the drawing board. It is in fact quite easy to make the 855 engine Euro7 compliant - it is half way there already with the recent change to an alloy head from the older iron one.

There will be a few ‘special editions’ of the RS3 before its demise as we know it, but more importantly, there is a rumour that the Golf R will be getting the 855 engine in a very limited number before the engine is killed in 2027. The Golf, being lighter and much more agile in design - akin to the first Quattro - has cried out to have the 855 engine, but their Audi stablemate dug their heels in and held onto the bar of gold. Now, IF VAG are to release a few Golf Rs with the 5 cylinder, they will be icons before leaving the showroom. So, anyone who is really keen on motorsport and VAG collectibles, you should get your name on the list early as I expect the investment will be severely over subscribed…

All quite possible - we know that Audi will be producing the “Final version” of the RS3 as a track oriented variant at about the £100k mark - whether the 5cyl goes in a “boosted” Golf is probably more speculation but it does seem to be on the cards.

As to the golf being “more agile” I’m not sure how, given that the A3/S3/RS3 and Golf are all on the MQB platform and very, very, similar under the skin with basically the same drivetrain and engines.

Golf-R 0-60 times are “officially” a little faster 4.6 seconds vs 4.7 but both are faster than spec in real world conditions so I don’t see a special edition 5 cylinder Golf R exactly running rings around the RS3, especially in a track-focussed version of the latter.

You’ve got to love a Q car. I had a SAAB 9-5 Aero which, while quite heavy, had 250bhp under the bonnet. That was really quite fun.

Nice choice, the latest iteration of the S/RS Audi range has finally got Audi showing what they can do.
Stunning engine, full of character and tbh a well driven RS3 (like it was stolen) is very very hard to beat.

They do go awol (2 in my office have had theirs nicked) so look after it and its performance/character/entertainment will never fade.

Already keeping close to my VW dealer for that exact R V5 to be announced :wink:
I haven’t bought a new car in France for a few years since the malus went nuts, an example of how a single rule can destroy revenues for businesses/countries….another example of a fun car is the GR Yaris which is a hoot. France used to be known as the hot hatch king now look at its car industry with the awful things that Peugeot et al produce …. shame.

Yes Billy should fork out for a couple of decent bollards for his driveway.

The thought had occurred but apparently the theives just turn up with something solid enough to pull them out.

I think it will need a tracker though.

Haha, another job I did years ago on a housing estate. Didn’t get the original contract some other jokers did and used a puny bolt down job that the fly tippers just pushed over. I was next, dirty great bollards, no more fly tippers. You need the right equipment for the job.

Trackers, reports of the police not being interested when people have contacted them giving the exact position. Anti theft devices near useless. A hidden kill switch costing pennies, 100% success at prevention

The other problem with bollards is we don’t have room for them.

The modern equivalent - ghost - is said to be more of a pain for the owner than any thieves.

Tracker with remote disable is probably the way to go.

But if organised thieves want to steal something, they probably will.

I have a hidden kill switch and a remote battery switch because I have keyless entry. That said, the keys are in a metal tin whilst not being used. Two Mercs down the road from me stolen in the last couple of months, one in broad daylight at 3:30pm.

2, maybe? If I was thieving it I’d expect it to have one, and look for it.
