Imminent purchase of an EV

Once again I have to decide whether to stick with the old car or buy new as the ct is due in march and the main problem is a noisy catalytic converter which is likely to be very expensive to repair.

Anyway I was going for the cheapest ev which is the dolphin surf. The nearest byd dealership is in Limoges but they only have the seal available which is twice the money. So I"m looking into the new e c3. which is available. It seems a very comfortable car with good spec. The price for a 5yr lease is 265 per month which for me is doable but I’d have preferred something closer to 200. So I suggested I could pay 4000 deposit to lower the monthly payments. The monthly payment would then be 210. A saving of just over 50 a month 600 in one year 3000 in 5 yrs. So by paying a deposit of 4000 I save 3000 an net loss of 1000?

I am not sure how you save anything?

60 months at $265 is 15,900
60 months at $210 is 12,600

So with the $4000 deposit you pay 16,600 instead of 15,900 and lose any interest or investments you could gain from the deposit.

Thanks just double checking I’m not being stupid!

I shall go through the figures with him next week. I might try some byd dealerships further away but I’m guessing the demand for the surf is very strong

Could they not ship a surf to your closer branch?

There’s an interesting Whatcar comparison of a BYD Dolphin, C3e and MG4 on YouTube that might be worth watching. Also have a look at the MG4 Urban that’s newly launched.

I have been forced into signing a leasing contract for a Twingo EV. I did tell him that I wanted an EV that costs less than the one I have at the moment. Which costs me 199 euros. But he had me sign up for a new one which costs 247euros. I have the bonus ecologique.

Renault sent me an offer with a 2000e first loyer : does that mean a deposit? Then the monthly payments would be a 110e . Which is what I can afford. Why can’t I have this offer with the bonus ecologique?

I have sent a registered letter to the garage renouncing the order. Silly me I forgot to sign it!

I will have to do it all again on Monday.

You know you have two weeks after signing to change your mind. You seem to be in a similar position to me in that I didn’t want to pay more than €200 a month. I can afford to but I’d rather spend my money on something that interests me. Trouble is when you go to a dealer the cheapest option is usually not available. Which Renault were you offered for €2000 deposit and €100 per month

good heavens…

My rule of thumb is… if someone tries to force me … I take a step back and walk away. No-one should be pressured into signing anything.

best of luck

Actually good news. I was told by the sales person that I could not cancel my order. But somebody else told me that I could. So I did.

Yesterday I called the sales person and told him why I had cancelled the order. He was trying to make up for his bad behaviour by selling me something that I had requested. Anyway things seem to be working out…

So true. What is the solution?

Some companies allow you to order direct and then push the vehicle to your most convenient dealers for you to collect or they arrange delivery, thus cutting out the lying little turd.

I have ordered from Renault. They sell their own cars. They sell a Twingo EV for 110euros monthly repayments. You have to advance 2000 €. I find it strange that I cannot have the bonus ecologique with this one. Where as I have one with a more expensive model. The sales person is probably lying again.

I am rather limited mobility wise. Otherwise I would go hunting for other car companies.

Renault auto Bernard in Valence.

I knew that but was misled by the salesman who said that with a leasing, you could not cancel once you had signed the contract. Luckily someone else told me that you have two weeks to change your mind. So I have sent a letter registered post cancelling the order.

Thanks Prunelle the Twingo EV sounds ideal for me. I shall look into it

I have considered that but I thought that you would have to do the registration yourself. I wonder if anybody else has bought a car that way

It’s France so I have no knowledge so we’ll wait for someone else to hopefully join in,

Twingo is an unfortunate name. Sounds like a bar of chocolate!
