Importing a trailer to France

Hi, We are moving to France next year. I have an Ifor Williams trailer that has a gross unladen weight 450kg and a max laden weight of 1500kg.
Does it need to be registered to use in france?

Yes, it needs its own registration (and insurance IIRC)

And a different licence category?

Registration, yes. Insurance, yes, Licence, possibly yes.

Whilst on the subject - does anyone want to buy an Ifor Wiiliams dual horse box? All bells and whistles. Dead cheap…

Thanks John,
Not sure what you mean about a different licence. I am 64years old. I know that some restrictions are applied in the UK on newly qualified drivers.

Is there something similar in France?

Thanks again

Depending on weight of your towing vehicle, you might need a class 96 added to your licence.

Hi Spenny, I’ve a little 750kg gross weight trailer and when I was buying it the guy in Fue Vert mentioned that if it was any larger I’d need some endorsement or something on my license. As I was happy with that capacity I didn’t enquire any further.

@cat vague idea as had a feeling you know horses? Adam1 above “does anyone want to buy an Ifor Wiiliams dual horse box? All bells and whistles. Dead cheap…”
