The people who Leclerc are affiliated to are https://www.reglomobile.fr/
I use reglo and I have never had any issues. Just thought you could peruse the site and evaluate your options at leisure.
Thank you for that explanation, something I had been unable to find since joining this forum.
If this posts with a quote I’ll have sussed it.
I switched to Lebara a while ago (MSE deal) and get 12Gb for £6.90/m, with all of it available for roaming.
I’m a little hesitant to change networks full time because I live in a rural location and O2 (giffgaff) reception is generally pretty good here.
That makes a difference. I think Lebara uses Vodafone. Mrs P is still with Giffgaff.
I would urge you to check the signal from each French network at your French home first. You can do this using your UK phone roaming and manually selecting each French network in turn. You might find some French networks as good as absent.
This matters as Reglo from Leclerc, for example, uses the SFR signal. So if SFR signal isn’t detectable you’d need to find out who’s selling on the networks you do see.
Orange is the fallback likely to run where others don’t, they don’t carry many MVNOs but do have their own Sosh and Lebara runs on them. Prixtel might still, too. Bouygues data allowances can be excellent if the signal suits.
IIRC Giffgaff uses Orange when we’re in Cussy, and speeds are decent, but thanks for the suggestion.
reglo have a map to research your coverage, La 4G/4G+/5G - Réglo Mobile just type in your address and it will show what signal you can expect, a tip turn off the filters for 3 and 4g first then you can see the map clearly, then click on the filters after.
That’s clearly based on the operator’s own outdoor coverage predictions, so I’d take that map with a pinch of salt the size of Swindon.
We used Lebara when we first came here but found even with it saying it will find a signal and uses Orange it was hopeless for getting a decent signal. Suspect it depends upon where you are. Mind you for roaming (providing you get a signal) then it was really good value
Update on Starlink.
We positioned the satellite dish on the roof of our ‘auvant’ and have left it a couple of weeks to see how it is going. We are not surprised to find it is occasionally ‘obstructed’ and so have now moved it up to our roof.
Speeds are now really great and we have had no interruptions in internet even with the occasional thunder drifting around. I would definitely recommend Starlink to anyone struggling with internet connection / speeds at their home. At 40 euros a month it is really competitive and puts 4G boxes to shame.
Thanks for the update, @blade46
What’s your average downlink and uplink speed?
I’m starting to suspect that Orange have no plan to get fibre to us anytime soon.
You are likely right about Orange. Our french neighbours say the same.
130 / 110
133 down, 19 up. @blade46 - your upload speed seems very impressive. Are you getting these figures from the starlink app /Advanced speed test ?
Yes and im amazed too although dropped a bit today. Thunder?
Didnt think we would get better than 33 up
Thanks.
I’m getting 18mbps down and 3mbps uplink for the same monthly cost.
Starlink does appear to be the new Plan B for us next spring if Orange can’t/won’t bring fibre to the house.
I use Sosh and very pleased with the speed as it allows me to do everything I need to with about 20mbps. But the issue I have is coverage outside. A few years ago now I purchased an omnidirectional outdoor access point that could apparently transmit up to 200m.
I finally set up the access point yesterday, but could only get about 7mbps approx 40m away, with a clear line of sight. Does anyone have any idea how I might be able to improve the speed?
