Increasing internet access speed with 4G mobile router

Would you say, based upon the LTE data, that the previous postition was just as favourable or should I keep it in the new location?

As 4G does not strictly require line of sight it seems reasonable to me, or maybe I’m just looking for confirmation so I don’t have to rig it up on the roof permanently!

On the figures so far the original position seems fine.

Thanks

which of the “orginal” positions… there were 2. One under the building overhang and one on the soffit or wouldn’t it matter? I’d favour the one on the soffit.

I’d go with the one on the soffit as well but I don’t recall there being much difference in signal quality in either location.

The soffit one, it’s a tiny bit better than the original position

So what’s the situaution with voip? I’ve plugged my phone in but it’s not working. That’s as far as I got

Good idea.

Attached is some info about choosing wi-fi channels.

WiFi Channels.pdf (444.8 KB)

I think it’s disabled by default with the Bouygues SIM… I guess you might be able to test that out by inserting another SIM in the device (like your phone one perhaps).
IIRC you can ask Bouygues what steps are required to enable it…

wifi is fine, it’s 4GLTE I was trying to improve

@james
There’s a 4G router forum which you might be interested in…

Another reference I found (possibly American) which relates to setting up a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) account - no idea if this is possible on your installation of course but might provide some clues with which to approach Bouygues…

If one wants to live in the beautiful French countryside, then maybe an FO (Fiber-optic) connexion may be a no-go. Then again, I understand a great deal of financing has been alloted by the government to make sure as many homes as possible are connected.

To know how you may stand, go to this Internet-address here.

Then find your address on the map and you will know whether or not you’re good for an FO-connexion. The next hurdle is - if you are within the map-confines for such a connexion - to get your name on a list. That explanation (in French) is found here.

Sorry, there is no English-translation that I know-of for the article cited …

That’s a no for us then. Glad I am sticking with Plan A

Installed it all permanently today, very happy with the new setup

Incidentally the Livebox is still dead after all these weeks!

A relatively simple query regarding free’s offerings. A new mast has been put up ‘near’ us; about 1.8km and the top of the mast is visible. The mast has a ‘free’ transmitter. I have had a free speech only sim for some time (in a standby phone) but now want to change to a sim that is a ‘sim only’ deal with no contract. I can’t find any such. I do have a Bouygue sim only deal at €7,99 a month for 40Gb uin my mobile router but I feel the free signal will be better (Bouygue transmitter from here = 4.3km).
Does anyone please have any more info?

Just curious, at 4.3km away what sort of speeds do you get from Bouygue sim?

At 5am ~20Mb/s … but during normal part of the day between 1 and 8 or 9 Mb/s.

Roughly the same as me :+1:
