Indre region

Hi, anyone here bought a property in the Indre region, specifically Le Blanc?

Welcome!

No.

But - while the good burghers of SF gird their loins prepoaratory to unleashing their collective wisdom on you - here’s a link to a site I found useful when we were researching locations:

Why does Le Blanc tickle your fancy?

Thank you! Well, dare I say it, it seems to be less populated with brits than other towns nearby, and seems a nice place! Trying to decide between village location or town….also seems like good value property there

The proportion of anglophones was one of our considerations too. In yokel Vienne  people want to try their English, but are in general happy to drop back into French (Madame is fluent, I am striving for competence). The skill is to work out who really can speak French and is hiding it (our MT), and who thinks he can but can’t (the chap who designed our kitchen)!

We’re in a town of 7.000, which is just right for us.

I’m just over half an hour away but visit Le Blanc often when I get bored of the usual places :joy: The town itself is less heavily Brit than the surrounding areas you’re right, but tbh I don’t find it makes a difference as the wider area is heavily saturated so you’ll play ‘try find anyone who isn’t from the UK’ in Leclerc as everyone gravitâtes to Le Blanc to do stuff. I got one of my Covid shots there and the hospital was great, far more organised than the other satellite clinics in the area (Montmorillon / Bellac / La Souterraine) but this was some years back obviously so of limited value today.

Le Blanc is very pretty beside the river. Its a halfway point for meeting some friends. Brenne national park just a short way with all the lakes.

It recorded a national (regional?) record temp the other day - 43.something as I recall. I’m around a hour from there, did French lessons there back in the day. It’s a nice enough little town though nothing startling. Near the Brenne national park, and the thousand lakes , which is pretty impressive for bird watching, cycling, walking, etc.

The whole region is under populated by comparison. I love it but it might lack excitement for some. Fewer people means fewer lots of things.

As for Brits, yes, they’re around. Dutch too. Not an issue for me personally. There’s an expat scene too but I can’t comment on the vibrancy of it. I’m the only kiwi I know around here, so that might please an Aussie!

Have you considered La Châtre? Worth comparing imho.

Thank you, will look

Thank you, interesting!

Thanks everyone. Any other favourite villages around there?

Do you know the blog Days on the Claise by two Australians who’ve settled into Preuilly sur Claise? They know the whole area quite well, including the Brenne. I remember from their blog that Le Blanc is a site where classic cars meet once a year to commemorate (and recreate) the old traffic jams when vacationers going north through there used to run into vacationers going south.

We’ve been there. Nothing exciting or even interesting, as I recall, but if I were researching a place from afar I’d use pagesjaunes to see how many bakeries, restaurants and cafes, and anything else you’d be looking for in a place to live.

It is indeed. Quite a spectacle… and it’s today! The Bouchon du Blanc, organised by the local classic car club, the quaintly named ‘Les Teuf Teufs’

It has been postponed due to the heat, awaiting a new date later in the summer!

I did wonder if the might happen. Shame, it’s cool and fresh (comparatively) this morning, if not a little damp. Would have been a good day for it.
