Info Covid-19 Masks and other stuff

And some people that are hard of hearing or in a group shout, which must spread droplets further if the usual sort of medical mask (ie not FFP2) is used

3137 cases of Omicron recorded in the UK today.

I would strongly recommend wearing FFP 2 or 3 masks if you’re vulnerable, and making sure they fit snugly at nose and under chin. They also last a reasonable amount of time (they seem effective for a couple of months if worn occasionally - based on the way mine filter out normal smells like cooking) which offsets the extra cost. A big problem with surgical masks is that they often have gaps at the side, so it’s possible to breathe unfiltered air without realising.

If you are vulnerable you should be able to get a prescription for FPP2 masks (and /or standard surgical masks). I got a box of 50 at the start that I keep for special occasions, so still have some left.

Leclerc has FFP2, they work out at about 0.50 each, sometimes a bit more.

That’s pretty good value.

I’m sorry that I didn’t make myself clearer in what I was saying about distance apart while wearing a mask. Looks like I was saying one metre distance was OK wearing a mask. It isn’t, as you rightly point out.

What sometime worries me in the supermarket is that I can smell someone’s perfume or aftershave at quite some distance, which makes me wonder!

Also, when someone steps in front of me and walks ahead of me, presumably trailing germs over their shoulders!

It’s a sort of minefield out there so wearing a mask and keeping well clear of others is best.

Yep, 16th May… France is removing the obligation to wear masks on ā€œpublic transportā€ (that’s how I’ve read it as the photo shows a bus/train…) Perhaps ā€œtransport of the massesā€ would be more accurate

those who want to continue wearing their mask, can do so, of course.
I posted the link on the France Daily thread…

Great! All our gite guests this summer are flying in. I’m going to be keeping them at several arms’ length.

Latest news (good news) is that the wave of covid which started in June… has now peaked and dropped back…
On 18th August only 23,605 new contaminations…
against 150,000 daily contaminations observed at the peak…
and numbers of covid in Intensive Care has dropped below the threshold of 1,000 for the first time since the beginning of July.
However, the public health agency is recommending that precautions continue, especially the use of masks on public transport…

A new wave (maybe a variant) is anticipated in the autumn…
