Inspiration for Dicken's workhouse in Oliver Twist under threat

I heard on the Today Programme that the building which Dickens used as the model for the workhouse in Oliver Twist is under threat of demolition and will be deemed a “brown field site” even though it has a paupers’ graveyard behind it which also has huge historical value. You can sign the petition to save the building online and find more info via this link and listen to the Today piece here Next year is the centenary of Dicken’s birth, he worked in the nearby blacking factory as a child and would certainly have worked alongside parish apprentices ie children from the workhouse.
