Insurance for dogs

Could you say who you are and your credentials? Every comparison site I’ve used has ended up being inundated with spam and telemarketing as they are often a vehicle to collect data and sell it on.

Hello Jane,

Thanks for your message!

We are a little start up creating websites about different topics. We would be super happy to have a call with you if you want to know more about us.
Otherwise all the infos “about us” (on the site) are actually true :joy:.

Since I don’t believe that pet insurance is of any value in France then not really worth your time!

Certainly I’ve never had it in any country, my only venture into the area was to meet (stupid) legal obligations. I got ripped off eventually too. Finally found a company who would insure my Rottie and they only charged a fiver a month for him, some risk, but only if I bought general insurance at the cost of another €20 a month. Didn’t bother after the first year, Maire wasn’t bothered either.

After doing my own research have gone with Barlibu.
Certainly French pet insurance is not as comprehensive as that in the UK but it’s ok.
We pay 23 euros a month and took it out in May. So far one claim for inoculation injections which reimbursed 62 euros.
All on line and when I scanned and submitted the invoice I got a reimbursement value back within 24 hours with the opportunity to amend if not happy.
They had not included TVA so I I ammended the claim and was paid out on my revised figure.
Insurance covers up to 3k with 80% reimbursement per year for accidents, illness etc but not everyday things all pet owners are faced with.
We should have been given shares by our vet practice for the money we spent with dear Alfie who was worth every penny so now Barney has insurance.
There are many comparison sites whicb are a carbon copy to that posted by @Comparesies_Team !!

I’m surprised the inoculation injections are covered - surely they are an example of “everyday things”?

Yes, definitely covered.
Not quite everyday as most are annual or less. They must factor it in to the cost of tge policy.
You only get 80% of the total cost.
Every little helps.

That’s really good to know, I’d rather pay that sort of money to get some cover. Our cat cost me nearly €400 when he got a hole in him. I einder if fat insurance exists??? Anyone know?

I’ve put it out to the universe that I’m looking for a little (max medium) doggie. I keep looking at the rescue dogs, SPA and phoenix but they never seem to have smaller ones, or cat friendly ones..

Pity you don’t live in England then, I love watching that programme ‘The Dog House’ but am frequently shouting at the screen as they always seem to be pushing little dogs on people, even when they say ‘anything smaller than a Dane’. That doesn’t mean they want a Shit Zoo, for goodness’ sake give them a Lurcher (and btw don’t say Lurcher X, the very definition is of a X) or a Lab or an Ally, but no, up pops yet another tiny Chiwawa.

I do love watching dogs but that programme does test my cardiac health sometimes.

I love it too! I’ve got I think 7 sat recorded which I shall enjoy next week when its raining with my crochet! We have also watched the Oz and NZ versions. I say we but I’m the only one who watches them .

The show has made me quite particular to them, my concern is the running at high speed if they get off leash! I love thier faces! And that its a not too big dog even though tall. I don’t want a really tiny, silly dog like a chiwawa. I guess I need to keep looking, and get my fencing sorted! If I get one are you available for fur-babysitting?

Fur hosting maybe, but for fur babysitting there would have to be enough room for one or 2 Dobies as well.

By the way Lurchers, being crosses come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Many years ago Sheelagh from Phoenix rang and said ‘do you know anyone who wants a Lurcher?’ and, as it was on speaker, Fran immediately shouted ‘yes, me.’ This was because she had had a Lurcher in a previous life and thought she knew what they looked like. So we adopted Lurch (yes, that really was his name and I never change a dog’s name unless absolutely necessary) and as soon as she saw him she exclaimed ‘that’s not a Lurcher’. But he was, and a lovely gentle giant as well, think Greyhound crossed with a Saluki, wonderful. We knew he had been with kids because of the crayon marks on his back and we soon scrubbed them off, but felt very silly when we realised that the ones from the corners of his eyes were in fact his Saluki markings. :joy:

Have you tried the Foundation Brigitte Bardot at Montpon-Menesterol in the Dordogne? Not sure how near that is to you. We were, and are, very impressed at the quality of care and after adoption service from the FBB (in our case from their Normandy centre). They have even visited us twice, completely unannounced, just to check on Paco’s welfare. They also give lifetime shelter to all sorts of animals that will never in reality be adopted, for a variety of reasons. We have changed our wills to ensure they receive a decent legacy as well.

Thanks George, very close to us 30/35 minutes. I’ll add them to my searching

So smallish ones exist?

Yes but depends what you mean by smallish. A Lurcher is basically a sighthound (as opposed to a scenthound) crossed usually with a terrier. If you think terrier (I know they come in various sizes too but generally smaller than a Lab) and then Greyhound, Saluki, Afghan etc., that will give you an idea.

They might be a bit on the tall side but that is because as sighthounds, they have long legs. It is the long legs of Hades that makes him taller than Jules but at about 28 kgs he is around 10 kgs lighter than him.

@George1 ‘s mention of Bardot at Montpon looks interesting, I had no idea they had a place there. Otherwise I have contact with my friend Tiffany the Presidente of Phoenix so could ask of her if you let me know the sort of size you are looking for. Without realising it you must have met her at Fran’s funeral as she was there too.

Just thought of Whippets too, like Greyhounds but smaller and there is a breed called Italian Greyhounds which to me look just like Whippets.
