I doubt the networks would want to take the ratings hit.

I can second this. Due to the side effects of prescribed medication I suffer from acid stomach daily. Gaviscon was costing me a small fortune with only limited success. I now use BiCarb bought from SuperU supermarket and that works well . . . . . . I might write a book about my experiences . . . .

Try a shot of undiluted Pastis (down in one)

can be nasty stuff… only to be taken sparingly and very infrequently

Yes a stop gap for me only. I was put on Pariet/Rabeprazole, and indeed a stronger dose has been added to my hospital prescription and I never have indigestion at all.

So you are promoting a new book. I think that a visit by the gendarmes in 2007 is irrelevant now. You claim that English is your mother tongue, but your posts are full of spelling and grammatical errors, so I hope that you found a professional editor for your book. In one post you even ask if we reach conclusions at the end of a post.

However, there is good news. I have thoroughly enjoyed many of the comments here and had a good chortle this sunny morning.

It’s mostly just bicarb and calcium carbonate (dredging up A’ level chemistry again) cationic (i.e. sodium/calcium) salts of weak acids act as buffers controlling pH.

The potentially dodgy bit is that it also contains sodium alginate - the blurb says it “forms a gel that floats to the top of the stomach contents preventing reflux” - but that presupposes a rather static view of the stomach - with peristalsis churning away I suspect it just thickens the stomach contents generally and reduces reflux that way.

Probably too much alginate is not that good to have.

Has she gone yet ? (RosT)

Squits rather than heartburn in my experience, it was the go-to method when I was tiny, it worked as far as I remember and put me off pastis for life (win-win, eh!)

One must assume so - would you stay around if you were her…

One assumes she is busy toddling off to La Poste with her free books that she has promised !

I found largish packs of Bicarb at Aldi.

If you’re cooking moules… a splash of Pastis can make a delicious addition to the liquor. :+1:

That’s the same one I use. Transparent pouch. Quite powerful and does not seem to leave any nasty taste. Lasts forever if you keep it well sealed.
