Just wished I’d not tuned in at 8.45pm and caught the full-blown awfulness of the Turkish ‘Kick-Off Show’, very little of which had anything to do with football - some rapper who appeared to be dressed in plastic bags, then a lady in a highly modified tracksuit and some dancers in football shorts and trainers who waved their arms about for a couple or minutes and lastly a man who appeared to be hitting a couple of tablet computers with a stick, albeit to no apparent effect.

The one and only time I went to such an event (Man Utd v. Benfica, 1968), I think the teams just came out (obviously in the old-fashioned sense of the phrase!), exchanged pennants and kicked off. But despite the lack of pre-match blingy spectacle, it’s still memorable over half a century later…
