I hope his promise/threat to fund Farage might make Labour more eager to regulate funding of UK political parties.
Elon Musk is his own worst enemy, but he’s achieved a lot by bringing clever people together to do great things. Space X has turned Boeing into a laughing stock, and Tesla certainly shook things up. I think a lot of people believe that successful people should be all lovely and cuddly (Richard Branson comes to mind), but it doesn’t really work like that. They’ve got a certain ‘normal’ people haven’t.
Appropriate choice of word
He does have very good PR
The problem with experts is they can be brought. See the WHO for details.
I’d like to say it was intentional. It wasn’t but well spotted. ![]()
I agree with you. Trump is currently infatuated with him. Elonia is BEYOND pushy and arrogant, and very few people can get away with that around Diaper Don. Trump is drawn to people he can’t intimidate. Think not just Musk, but broader - Putin, Kim Yong-Il. And the way he appeared and skyrocketed to prominence in this political cycle shows that either the far right was blindsided to him barreling toward them to insert himself into the scene, or worse, that they planned all this. But given their track record, the latter is not likely (IMO).
Neither Zuck or any of the tech bros have been able (or probably wanted) that spotlight. THey just want to carry on their misdeeds in private, and get as rich as possible.
My hopes are that sooner than later, the blush will fade off the rose, as it always does with Trump’s infatuations, before too much lasting damage can be accomplished.
Do people that seek power have a nut job mentality?
Agreed, but it’s not difficult to avoid buying over-expensive products.
Just realised as I write this that Musk and his ilk will never be interested in curbing population growth. More poorly educated mugs to part with their cash, making millionaires into billionaires and then trillionaires.
Mugs exist at all levels.
Au contraire. Most of the world’s population will never be able to afford Musk’s produce therefore they of no consequence to him other than being a drain on planet earth’s remaining resources.
Hang on, he has reduced the price of "his creations " to a lot less than many other competitors whilst providing the worlds best charging network. I am not a fan boy but facts are facts.
I think it’s the other way round ![]()
Which, if accurate, is excellent for that half of the world’s population which comprises his customer base.
I find myself wondering whether people will start looking to the solution that the French came up with in the late 18th century.
I listened to Lewis Goodall interview some instantly forgettable Labour MP about this earlier today. She said they’re planning to deal with this, but that it won’t be expedited by Musk and Farage being best buddies, and that there are other priorities first.
I can kind of see her point. By intervening to stop Musk bankrolling Reform, it plays right into Farage’s hands… He would instantly say this was the establishment trying to shut him down, etc…
I think it might be better to not make out this is a knee jerk reaction, but to wait it out. They just need to have intervened before Reform get to spend potentially hundreds of millions of dollars on social media targeted adverts ahead of the next General Election in 2029.
Except, like Trump, he is a member of the establishment and they need to have the balls to call him out on that fact.
Point taken, but isn’t it billions of small purchases that fund these types? Which in turn feeds the advertising industry and big bucks come in from that. Hey, I don’t know how someone like Musk becomes wealthy to the tune of 400Bn. It isn’t from selling cars.
Well, a lot does. Most of his wealth comes from stock ownership in Tesla, Spacex and other companies. His wealth has apparently increased by over 60% since Trump was re-elected.
And Trump doesnt like EV’s
Musk took a gamble and told shareholders not to give him pay rises but give him shares when he achieved targets. Those shares were considerable and so was the increase in share price. By comparrison, Toyota were a share holder in Tesla, but their CEO sold the stock as he had no faith in EV’s. It was a huge mistake for Toyota to have done that, cant remember the figure they lost out on but it was huge. They did make quite a bit but it paled to what they could have made. The Rav 4 EV was engineered by Tesla for the electric components.
