Is Netflix Dead?

Or is it just me, perhaps the orange clown heard me talking about him.?

Yesterday, thinking to check what was on offer at Netflix, there was no response at all to the button on the remote. YT works ok and so does Prime, but Netflix, nothing.

Is there something obvious that I have missed or should I be trying to chase down whoever needs to be contacted at Netflix Towers?
Not a payment problem, I see the monthly charge was taken out this morning as usual.

I do like the phrase The Orange Oligarch, it seems appropriate.

How do you access Netflix?

Smart TV, Firestick or other?

Smart TV

You might want to see if the Netflix app needs updating.

Probably somewhere in Settings > Apps.

I’ll have a look, thanks.

Well everything in settings was up to date, nothing at all to do there but it still didn’t work.

However, I then pressed the ‘home’ button on the remote and the line of panels across the top of the screen included Netflix, so I pressed that, and was back in to Netflix. :joy:

I came out of that completely then pressed the Netflix button again, and it worked. :astonished:

How very strange, but thanks for the tip. :grinning:

Since you’re back, Toxic Town on Netflix is a short series worth watching.

I’ll have a look at it but my preference is for films rather than series. It isn’t that I haven’t got the patience to wait for the next episode, it is more that I suspect, am sure in some cases, that they are extended beyond their natural life so to speak. Whereas watching a film over a few nights is not the same thing.

Toxic Town is about the very real events in Corby UK not so long ago. Good and sincere performances

I tried to watch it but found it so annoying and upsetting how people were/still are treated, I wanted to punch Brendon Cole for real. That council made my blood boil.

Quite. I should think the Kensington & Chelsea were of the same ilk before and after the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

This took place some +/- 10 years ago. It may be different now.

I took the Netflix 30 day free trial. I immediately went thru’ their film catalogue looking for films by my favourite directors. A short selection - Almodovar, Michael Powell, Alain Resnais, Jean Renoir, Kurasawa, Nicholas Roeg … so-called ‘Art films’.

Drew a blank - none. On Day 2 I set about cancelling the account.

To cancel a Netflix a/c one must telephone them - obviously so the Netflixista can try to talk you out of quitting. I asked the guy to go thru’ the catalogue himself to find films by the above and others.

Drew a blank - none.

And so I quit Netflix and continue to buy DVDs.

These streaming services are often glitchy, and even more so if using a VPN or Smart DNS service to watch them. Sometimes I find that it works one day and not another. I have a smart TV but with a satellite box attached (which also has smart functions) and sometimes it will work on one but not the other - no rhyme or reason. And, just like in the old CTRL-ALT-DEL days, sometimes a reboot is needed.

Favourite Kurosawa film?

Remember the old rules - switch off, wait 5 minutes then switch on again. It always works except when it doesn’t.

I think that was basically what I did. :grinning:

Glad you are up and running again so you will now be ready for the Ginger and Markle shit show due to start soon:rofl::scream::face_vomiting:

Already passed over with abnormal haste. :joy:

BTW. growing old and mentally infirm has its advantages. I watched an excellent French film last night, Mystere, and not far in realised that I had seen it before, but I couldn’t remember anything after the bit I was watching so watched it right through to the end and enjoyed it just as much.

The 2nd time this week that that has happened.

“The 2nd time this week that that has happened.”

Are you sure about that?
Sorry . :zipper_mouth_face:

I have done something similar, only twigging after watching a big chunk of the film .
