Is there another spam numbers thread?

I had a question and spotted @Stella’s thread so scrolled all the way down it only to find it locked. I thought it was not possible for a member to have such a privelege, but never mind, so here is my question.

I often use pages jaunes to ID numbers which I don’t recognise but I wondered if there was a similar way to track UK numbers to save having to ring them.

If not then I will have to ring this number just in case it is someone I know.

David, if you type the number into your favourite search engine, restricting (if you can) results to the UK, you’ll get lots of results which should tell you if it’s genuine.

Try this one - it is aimed mostly at listing spam calls but if the number hasn’t been reported there then it’s probably legit.

Tried it and it won’t let me in, says it is only open to citizens of the United Kingdom, cheeky bastards, I am one. Then it says if you are on holiday, download and app. Sod off.

Same result from ‘my favourite search engine’ @Porridge.

Thanks both anyway, I’ll call it and see what happens before I put it on the delete list.

It is Quality Club.

Quality Club is an external quality assessment program for allergy and autoimmunity, presented by Thermo Fisher Scientific, ImmunoDiagnostics.

Now on the blacklist, it won’t stop them calling but at least I’ll be able to dismiss them at a glance from now on. :grinning:

You could try Google then.

I’ve found that the sites themselves often restrict their responses to UK searchers, but the results as displayed after you search usually reveal useful information.

Don’t be too sure about the veracity!

My grandaughter got scammed yesterday and had her EE mobile hacked by sim swapping.

This morning I received a text which only showed a mobile number and xx (presumably kisses)

I used that link to check and says it’s an EE number…so, EE sends me a text with their phone number and kisses? Just had a message from her dad who has received a phone call from an unknown UK number on his French mobile. I think the family and friends are going to be very careful

That’s very interesting, but I’m at a loss as to how it relates to the original question.

Not sure what sim swapping, presumably remotely, means, but that number has rung again 3 times this morning.

I’ll see what I can find out about the company without risking anything.

No use to me, already on the blacklist I will simply delete it whenever it appears.

Apologies, it doesn’t.

Very strangely, and a tad worryingly, I received an email from SE confirming the receipt of the the transferred money and saying that it will be held in my account there until I instruct where to send it.

I was straight on the phone to Paul to explain this in view of the fact that I had downloaded and sent an RIB telling them just that.

His reply was that they (not him) had been phoning me yesterday but got no answer. Of course I told him that he well knew I answer no calls I do not recognise and the only UK rejected calls were from the mysterious Quality Club. He said it was a once only confirmation required for the first deal and that they would ring again immediately, giving me the number they would use.

I am still waiting. I will ring them again at 1030, giving them time to settle in the office.

I wonder if they have taken over a disused phone number? I had that when I first came back to the UK - Vodafone gave me a “recycled” mobile number and I got tons of phone calls from people trying to contact the person who had had that number before me.

Fortunately they swapped me to a new number fairly promptly.
