Just looking at my junk mail and saw this, very cheap, but not as nice as the FF ones
Double glazed doors and my shutters are due back this week repaired and painted. We should survive. They look and feel good.
Anybody tried this stuff..

When I renovated the family home twenty odd years ago there was a lot of glass and we had all the windows low-E. It was pretty effective. I’d like to retrofit it here but I can’t find an installer and if I did it we’d end up with bubbles everywhere.
Sounds a real faff to me. I think it’d look a bit awful as well.
IKEA sells curtains of 250cm lenght…

I think the film wouldn’t be noticeable, if correctly applied. It also has the advantage of keeping heat out in summer. If it’s not a runner, I might get a quote for replacing the glass is the salon with Low-E glass. three patio doors and a window, It coukdn’t cost a fortune
Get them argon filled as well.
Well, the film doesn’t go on the glass, it sits above the glass with an air gap that provides the insulation. I think that would be quite ugly especially on a big window. It would also probably be easy to pierce. A better glass panel would be much better I think.
Oooh no, that’s not what I want at all.
I want a film that is attached to the class, like a screen protector for a phone, which has a low E coating which improves the insulation. If applied correctly it would be invisible.
Just like the low-E coating I specified on my double glazing twenty years ago. It was invisible. In fact we ordered the downstairs windows, patio doors etc. (of which there were a lot) from a Sandinavian firm and they arrived right on spec.
But our builder tried to fob us off telling us the upstairs windows were low-E too, as we had specified. I didn’t trust him so I bought a testing machine from 3M (I think it was), an inexpensive little box you held against the window and pressed a button. If it beeped… low-E, if not… The builder had to swap out all the upstairs panes.
If I can’t find such a coating (because these seem coloured) I’ll get a quote for low-E in the salon. Id reasonable I’ll go ahead because we’ll save on heating and air conditioning ![]()
Thanks for all the helpful comments. Looks like we’ll have to make some or get some made.
