Even with our living area heated to 22C there are still uncomfortable draughts. We need some thick insulated curtains that come down to the floor in front of the two upvc patio doorways. That’s unless anyone has a better idea. Any suggestions please where to buy material or made to measure.
I bought a IR camera gun the other day. I was persuaded as we have UF heating - can see heating under the tiles - and we plan to insulate the garage. Not too many cold spots as one should expect in a 2003 bungalow. If anyone is planning to buy one this has been favourably reviewed. Thermal Master THOR002 thermal imaging camera
At this time of the year most big supermarkets that have a household section are selling thermal curtains. In the past, I’ve bought the ones that just slot onto a pole (easy to put up, usually longer than needed which makes for a good draught excluder at the bottom). Where we have a particularly cold entrance that leads into a barn I hung two such curtains, one behind the other - easy to do.
And any big fabric shop will have ready made ones as well as the fabric, and they often have a making-up service if the ready-made ones aren’t suitable.
I’d be very interested if anyone knows of anywhere that sells them ‘off the shelf’ at lengths longer than 260cm. This seems the standard that I can find in brico stores etc and means I end up having to add panels to them all to make them long enough.
Our lounge has a very high ceiling, so I had the same problem. There used to be a wonderful shop called “Fly” in our local town (sadly not there any more) and I bought the curtains and two bedspreads that matched the curtains. I joined the bedspreads to the curtains, so that they hung right to the ground and finished up with nice double thickness “lined” curtains
I remember FLY, not cheap but did furniture and accessories for home decor you didn’t see elsewhere. Maisons du Monde type place and we always had a look round when in town to see if they had something unusual
Some places seem to only stock curtains with eyelets. My wife doesn’t like them. We have those already - here when we moved. She also said she wants curtains to the top of the wall which I’m unsure about. Ceiling is 2.6M. Just been experimenting with closing the plastic roller shutters to see if the room’s made more comfortable. Not sure yet if it’s effective.
I use a Flir One Pro that attaches to a smartphone or tablet (usb C).
We bought IR reflective blackout curtains online from a company called moondream. ‘Rideau Thermique et Occultant’. https://www.moondreamwebstore.fr/
I added a second rail behind the poles already supporting heavy old velvet curtains. It improved things, although not perfect yet. Thin shutters containing aerogel quilt are next in my plans, and will help being our house insurance down a bit.
They aren’t thermic though, see where it says ‘occulant’ ? That means it is a blackout curtain. You need to find ones that say Thermique if you want them to be warm.
I was in La foir’foille yesterday and the fleece lined ones are on 25% off.
