JPR Rugby Union Great

Sad to see the death of this great player at the, to me tender, age of 74 yesterday.

If you know who he is just by his initials you don’t need me to give you any more information than that, but why do I have in my ‘memory’ that he was banned from Union after publishing his autobiography which, because he made money from a book largely about Rugby Union, was said to have broken his amateur status?

In all the tributes on the radio this morning nothing is mentioned about this, and neither is it mentioned in his Wikipedia entry. Did I dream it, or is there a cover up of shame, from the now professional RU, about the matter?

In contrast, Franz Beckenbaur’s death on the same day, has Wikipedia, while rivalling JPR in praise, containing very much about his alleged corruption activities after his playing career was over.

My favourite player of all time.
Such a talent, Junior UK wimbledon champion and an orthopaedic surgeon to boot.
