Just a reality check for those of us fortunate enough to have the means to live here without worries.
I have taught in Sauveterre de Guyenne (between Ste Foy la Grande & La RĂ©ole) and I now teach in Ste Foy la Grande. Life is very far from easy for many of my pupils and their families. It is hard for them to see that education is worth it and a means of getting somewhere in life when they see there are no prospects even for people with good qualifications.
Many people have been agricultural labourers for generations and don't/can't have the opportunity to do anything else. The wonderful thing about school under the 3rd republic is that it was a real way of changing social determinism and stayed that way until quite recently, but that is unfortunately no longer generally the case.
