UPDATE. Amazingly, I received a text and email from ANTS (or whatever it’s called now) saying they have accepted all the documents submitted and i’ll receive my driving licence within 14 days! It’s incredible that they can do that so fast, but wait 4 months to tell me i needed to have ‘UK Driving Licence’ as lost on the Declaration de Perte. Must try not to lose my cards again.
Great news! They’ve obviously been reading SF
i thought that too
Is there a database online where you can check a vehicle out by entering the registration plate (france)?
This one
Thanks for replying. I found that… maybe i’m looking at it wrong, but it just seems to load up a pre prepared email to send to the vendor?
this seems to be the best thing out there, although it’s about €30 after you add discounts https://www.carvertical.com - gives quite a lot of info about the vehicle
Yes Car Vertical is excellent - when I bought my Honda Accord estate a couple of years ago there were two cars that fitted my needs and budget - I put both of them through Car Vertical and with one of them it showed that it had been in a considerable front-end smash (with photos of the wreck!) and had then been rebuilt - something that wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the car dealer’s particulars.
Now of course it could have been meticulously repaired and would have been absolutely fine - but needless to say I bought the other car!
good move. I was concerned that the car (i’m in the process of buying) didn’t show up on a certain car tyre website. There’s a new ‘choose tyres with reg plate option’. I feel more settled after Car Vertical, but it did fail to show the MOT which i did see in paper form when i viewed the car.
Can carvertical show current ownership if a dealer is selling it on behalf of somebody? I took a look at their website and it’s not clear. Someone local asked me as they’d been interested in a UK car. I told him that information is now very difficult to obtain. Was I wrong?
it mentions nothing about ownership except how many there have been. I imagine that’s due to privacy laws etc. Imagine if a road rage incident resulted in one party getting the others address etc
CORRECTION - actually it wasn’t Car Vertical that I used, it was “Total Car Check”!
And it cost me £8.99 to check up to 3 cars.
Either way, it’s a good idea to do a check on any vehicle you are considering buying.
it works for french registered cars too?
Don’t know for sure, but probably not.
Thanks then, but not much use to those on French Entree! It’s a pity because it cost me €30 to do one car with Car Vertical
…or even on Survive France!
Sorry not to be of more help, I just misremembered which website I had used and wanted to correct that info.
aha - yes, Survive France
You should have just supplied an attestation l’honneur to say you lost your licence somewhere in the vicinity of xxxx on xxx date and confirm that a thorough search has not recovered it.
Words to this effect.
You reported it to the police but now understand that only stolen licences follow this procedure.
No the application attestation won’t hire you a car in France or the UK with no physical licence.
I’ve just spotted you’ve received the 15 day text so you’re sorted.
To anyone reading this thread, it’s still a legal requirement to have a valid photocard 4b date to drive in France or an application to change in the system, which is exactly the same as the UK where you could be fined up to 1K there, the rules are no different.
Yes correct.
