when i lost my licence, the Gendarmes eventually gave me a Declaration de Perte - It seems to be a crucial document for ANTS when you lose the licence. Caused me no end of headaches because the Gendarmes failed to mention the licence, just the Carte de Sejour. Fortunately the Mairie will sign a CERFA declaration de perte form if you print it out for them and pay a visit. My Mairie is tiny too - for about 30 people.
Not at all, I’ve had a substantial amount of lost licences through my group over the last 6 years and the attestation l’honneur is accepted as a self declaration.
The gendarmes can only issue an attestation for a stolen licence. In fact I’m surprised they didn’t tell you this.
the gendarmes were useless, as was the Mairie in the larger town I lost my wallet. That Mairie said I had to have the Declaration de Perte but at the same time said that Gendarmes only deal with theft. It was actually the Police, who i bumped into, who said visit the Gendarmes. As I said before, they didn’t cover the driving licence and didn’t mention that when i was there. The worst aspect is ANTS. All it had to do was tell me there was an alternative to the declaration, yet it insisted on one signed and stamped by a ‘relevant authority’… I approached my friendly Mairie as a last resort and they didn’t know if they were allowed to authorise the form. All done know, every bit of French bureaucracy I overcome I feel a sense of pride after!
