Keep your heads down

Given the number of people accidentally killed by chasseurs each year, I’ve posted a reminder - it’s that time again!

Below is a link to the start of the season in each département - all those around us (12) start on Monday.

Thanks, ours starts on Sunday. We are fortunate here in that we are enclosed by 2 roads with forest and field within and, although there are only 4 dwellings including our own in that ‘island’ it has not in the past been in the hunt’s favour to cross into it without falling foul of the distance from poperty rule.

Personally it is a bit of a worry with our little Setter, Alice, apparently on heat, that a hound or 2 might catch a whiff and cross into ‘forbidden’ territory.

Thanks for the link. I hadn’t realised how long the hunting season is. Ours starts Sunday 8th.

Would a few of these mounted on poles around your property boundaries help?

Unfortunately, probably not. Two people from neighbouring villages have been accidentally killed in recent years by chasseurs who were not observing the regulations (and in both cases, the killers just got their wrists slapped). We’ve been in the direction of fire once when a solo hunter was shooting along a bloody vélo route!

It’s a very serious issue in these parts. I’m not against hunting - it’s necessary, but would prefer each commune to employ a professional hunter rather than it being left to enthusiastic amateurs.

I agree entirely, but I really think it sad that so many of the people who do it do not do it because it is necessary, but because they enjoy killing wild animals.

I asked a hunter the other year if he’d had any success, he said no but he’d killed a song thrush! Why for heaven’s sake?

Surely they are protected birds.

It’s early and the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. I read the first line as “chaussures” and the thought of Bush ducking them adroitly in Iraq came immediately to mind.

I must remember to keep sounding the horn and flashing the headlamps when driving through wooded country areas.

I’ve just bought a dayglo rucksack

My group of tennis girls have decided we’ll change sports as a couple of them have shoulder / elbow issues. We are now going to do power walking in the woods on Friday nights! We can’t meet until 7pm so hopefully well be safe then!

I agree. A friend drove the 2.5 km home from the village to her hamlet last night and saw 6 sanglier :grimacing:

Maybe head torches are a good idea as the evenings get darker earlier

Dont worry about the bears…the wolves have eaten them all

Yes, some of the girls have already ordered them as well has hi vis waterproof running tops. I’ll see how I go with the head torch I already have.

:grimacing: yes I’m.not 100% about it but we shall see

I totally agree. It actually makes me feel sick. When I was driving the other day, a beautiful deer jumped across the road and the thought of men with guns and dogs hunting this animal down for ‘sport’in a couple of days filled me with sadness. :cold_sweat:

:cold_sweat::cold_sweat::cold_sweat:This is what sickens me. It’s not about controlling numbers - it’s about some men’s (and it is mostly men unfortunately) idea of fun.

A four year old has seriously injured his chasseur father by (somehow) discharging the latter’s own gun…

The usual terrible firearm security, couldn’t have happened if the gun wasn’t loaded where children have access… The chasseur was lucky it was only his foot.
