My Kindle worked perfectly last night before I went to sleep and, because I knew it was due I put it on recharge first thing this morning.
Disconnected when the light turned green but when I try to switch it on now, although the green light appears briefly, nothing else happens.
Any body any ideas as to how to get round this?
Meanwhile I’ll give my old one a try, it used to work ok but I stopped using it as it isn’t backlit.
I’m only familiar with the really old kindles, but you might be able to hold down the power button for about 40 seconds and see if it resets. If that doesn’t work, try charging it for 24 hours. Other people have got it to work by plugging it into a computer with a USB cable (if it’s stuck in some sort of wake up loop).
I can’t help with your particular problem David but if you want to continue reading your Kindle library you can download the free app on to almost any computing device. If you have Alexa she will even read it out loud to you.
I just checked my no longer wanted cupboard in my shed and have found an old Kindle there. I have put it on charge. If you would like it you can have it gratis.
That’s a very kind offer but at the moment I’ve got the old Kindle on charge and this fully charged but not responding one plugged into the computer, but still showing the green fully charged light. Had one go at starting it again but no change.
After I posted the OP I started fiddling with my tablet which I hardly ever use, can’t even remember why I bought it now, switched it on and checked a few things then switched it off. But it wouldn’t switch off so had to leave it a while before it switched itself off anyway.
Only cheerful thing about the whole affair is I have found a 2nd use for another charge cable, can’t remember what it was for now, probably the hearing aids that disappeared into the river.
I hate electronics, even the Partner ganged up on me this week when I discovered I can’t get to the negative pole on the battery to charge it. Only way is to clip it to a metal bit. Have you tried to find any metal in a modern car? Even the expert who came had trouble finding some to clamp to, one little screw I think.
Good news, following @Gareth2022 's suggestion I held down the start button for a minute and it suddenly came alive and is now resetting itself, not holding my breath though the progress bar has stopped just before the end.
Despite being a complete geek and gadget freak I tend to agree. Though being picky I would suggest that what you really hate is firmware which is badly written, spies on you, harvests your personal information for sale on the web or all three.
Don’t know about that but the reset bar is still halted at about 95%. Don’t know whether to give it time, hit the button again, with cable still in or out or throw it at the wall.
Kindles have an infuriating habit of freezing or refusing to boot because there’s an update lurking about waiting to upload. Kindles are the only device I know of which locks up or springs updates on you without asking first.
If you dont have a problem reading on a mobile phone (I know a lot of people do), you can use the Kindle app. Its the only thing I use to read books in my Kindle library. Just a suggestion.
Try a brand new good quality charger cable.
I had the same problem, presumed it was the battery, bought / replaced that, ruined the touch screen function and decided to buy a used replacement Kindle.
Same problem charging. realised it was the old cable all along. need not have thrown away the old Kindle.
Then I had to reload my previous library which took me hours of frustration.
Good luck and hope you don’t have the same problem and outcome as me.
My Kindle went black. Nothing would get it going again - cables, resets … Amazon diagnosed terminal s/w problems.
I s’pose I could have saved the cost of buying another by reading on something running the Kindle app but I was v. pleasantly surprised when Amz offered me a 30% discount off a new Kindle, the discount being valid even if Amz had deals running on Kindles.
As it was Polka Dot Tuesday or Purple Wednesday Amz did indeed have a 30% discount deal on the Paperwhite. Say no mo’.
Yes I have 2 working Kindles at the moment but as they are nos. 3 and 4 I am prepared for number 5 to be needed before long.
So that was the car battery, then the Kindle, and last night the microwave packed up. It lights and goes round but doesn’t heat. So I am drinking cold coffee at the moment, the filter machine (no.2) packed up long ago and I have been boiling a kettle and pouring it through the filter by hand for years.
I shouldn’t complain, I bought that micro on ebay 20 years ago from a lady in Liverpool who only got one bid on it, mine, at £0.99. Not only that but she agreed to hang on to it for 3 months until we went to stay with my son in Cumbria, picking it up on the way home. I felt a bit embarrassed when we got there, she had it all boxed up with all instructions and searched in her purse for the one penny change from the pound coin I gave her. I refused that off course and also gave her a very good bottle of Bordeaux which we had brought especially. I wish I still had her details, it would have been nice to have let her know how much her sale had been appreciated.
So, I have checked Amazon and will go to the big stores today to get another one, about 50 quid should do it this time, I don’t do much with it, mainly heating glasses of coffee.
