Love the matching candles in the chandelier!
Thank you, it’s 2 rooms with the terracotta wall in the living room and the candles in the kitchen. There’s green and terracotta stencilling around the top of the living room wall too. Colours aren’t realistic in the pictures, but give an approximation thanks to phone camera technology.
Being nosey
what’s the appliance above the hob, some kind of extractor ![]()
It’s a hood with filters and fan built in. Cost about £80 from ebay when we fitted the kitchen about 7 years ago. Our walls are too thick to easily fit a conventional extractor, and there’s also a pair of rising water pipes in roughly the place we would want a conventional wall-mounted filter hood. This was an interesting and very useful alternative at a good price.
Thanks so much to all who have contributed to this thread, especially @Susannah ![]()
Been a busy few weeks with school reports, unruly teen and all sorts! The ideas are still running around and now I’m on holidays we are thinking and talking!
The idea of having a floor to ceiling cabinet where the big sideboard is has got us excited! I’m frustrated as saw an example I thought on this thread but have gone through 3 times and can’t find it! Susannah as you said we can also cover up the electric box and we’ve measured up and there is space under to have a broom / vacuum / mop cupboard as well. After looking at lots of ideas we realise we can do an internal worktop to hide away the Kenwood and ice machine as well as huge amount of storage allowing us to get rid of all the other furniture, stuff on top of the cupboards and giving so much space ![]()
@Susannah sorry just going back to colour. As I think I mentioned / you’ve seen current colour is a bright white. We are on a very tight budget and we already have 2 huge pots of white white. What is the issue with it? What would buying a different shade do? Can I add something to the paint we have? I have a color adder thing to turn white paint grey for example.
If anyone is on a tight budget and needs good covering white paint to mix a colour, Leroy’s do a 12L trade tub for €15.
We use the lidl stuff (German made) and Action as well, both very good.
The good news is that white is a perfect base. The trick is adding exactly the same additive to each full paint pot. Do you know a friendly paint shop? You may be able to take in your pots and pay them to add colourant and use their mixer. Failing that, others here can suggest a DIY solution.
The challenge is now to find what to add in order to achieve the colour you want. This is where using a shop may be helpful. Please be wary of just adding black to achieve grey. Just adding black to white will give you a rather dirty and a bit sad old tone. The best blends also contain yellow and purple, for cooler add orange and blue… It is quite a science!
Can you not maybe use the three tins of bright white elsewhere?
They are silicones and sit on top of brick. Nearly 9 years and no probs so far!
Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry, am just reading back through and discovered that I needed to click on ‘summary’ to see your post, I totally missed it!! Actually reading later maybe I hadn’t but the info fallen out of my head! Thanks so much, was great to read it all back.
So update is we never got anything done a year ago! I think we ended up away in Feb then the weather got good so we debunked to the garden!
Kitchen area: I’m just finishing up the undersink cupboards in a anthracite grey, really happy with it. On the colour chart it looks identical to F&Bs Down Pipe (I’ve ordered the paint chart!).
Still undecided on the top cupboards, either the pale grey we found at LM or I’m actually hankering after pale pink after seeing some stunning examples! Thinking it could look really warm and happy!
We also started painting the pipes of the wood burner, sadly we did the first run as a test and not quite got to the others as the weather turned and haven’t fancied opening the windows for hours to get out the smell! Still ‘discussing’ the bricks, I want pale, the man shape thinks it will look horrid and dirty within a week!
We actually got our off terrace laundry / summer kitchen / bar done so at least washing machine and dryer, ice machine ect are gone out there.
1/2 done but gives you an idea. Workbench is 3 metres long, my fave room in the house now ![]()
Talking of pink paint, our ensuite just has a toilet and sink. We have to do some roofing, sorting chimney flashing before we can decorate and do the permanent sink. This has been dragging on for years (see a pattern
). We had bought an IKEA bathroom cabinet from LBC that had been painted, very badly, dark grey. On my painting extravaganza I spotted some pink paint and am redoing it to cheer up the space, luckily hubby doesn’t mind it ![]()
Aahhh, pink!
You could go with more of a salmon pink with the grey you’ve chosen
Or,
But, given you have white splashback tiles
Just check the pink doesn’t clash with your floor tiles.
Or your hair ![]()
Is that an approving of the idea ahhh?? ![]()
I quite like F&B Camomile as an option, not sure if I can convince the other half though! I’ll see how he copes with the pink I’m doing in the bathroom first
it is between Middleton and Camomile on the F&B chart!
