Knowing whether artisan is registered with URSSAF CESU

Is there a way of checking whether an artisan - in this case, a gardener - is registered with URSSAF so as to know that work will be tax-deductible? Or must we just ask?

(I assume the gardener is self employed ie not an employee of a gardening entity).Generally what happens is that you, as his/her “employer,” will need to use the CESU online system (part of URSSAF).to pay the employers/employees social security, grossed up. You can also use CESU to pay their actual earnings as well, if you prefer.

It doesn’t really matter whether the gardener is already registered with URSSAF (assuming he’s working for you and not a company). You will in practice need the permission of the gardener to register them in CESU, as you’ll need their social security number, date of birth, full name etc. Registering yourself on CESU is very easy.

It’s a brilliant, simple to operate online system, that deals with much of the complexities smoothly and automatically. By paying via CESU you will then have all the necessary data to be able to claim up to 50% relief on your tax return. CESU has modellers on its site that allows you to calculate the gross cost and the net cost after tax relief. You can even get them to allocate the tax relief in advance of the tax return, automatically.

There are several threads on SF explaining CESU, if needed.

Cesu works really well, I’m using it to pay our gardener via Cesu +. There’s also their Avance Immédiate as you say, which I’m trying to sign up to at the moment.

Yep, I managed to register myself. As you say, easy - indeed, the easiest thing I’ve done since arriving.

Have tried finding threads explaining the CESU system but can’t find them. Are we talking fairly recently or months ago Since my husband died I am employing someone to help with heavy gardening tasks which are beyond me. He is v good but v expensive so am interested in the possibility of having some relief taxwise

You just need to use the magnifying glass button two to the left of your identifier thing (top right of the page)

We were dealing with a very sceptical potential gardener, who claimed he would.only accept cash in hand. Using the CESU modeller, I showed him that he would obviously still receive the same amount, but that we would pay his social security, and - miraculously - it was actually overall cheaper for us to use CESU, than hypothetically paying him in cash, entirely due to the tax relief. Not to mention the small matter of complying with the law. He was suitably impressed.

If they are artisans they will be registered with the CMA[Dept N°] Regardless they will have a Siret number and an APE number. You can look me up at the CMA18 in Bourges.

Simple internet searches will flush them out if they’re dodgy!
