Kristallnacht II, the beginning

I think weā€™re witnessing the dawn of a new dark age.

When books, are the enemy, itā€™s pretty frightening.

We have been here before, but now, it has to be said no matter how unpalatable, the victims then, are the perpetrators now.

I donā€™t think there is any difference between the lunatic Jewish right wing religious belief that they are Godā€™s chosen master race and the Nazis thinking they were the master race. Both engender contempt and disregard for the rest of humanity.

When I was younger I used to wonder how normal, everyday Germans could have stood by and allowed the Nazis to become what they became.

Threats, intimidation and not knowing what your friends and family believed in I think was the problem. We are seeing the same sort of thing with this Re*orm lot and their ilk in the UK at the moment, whipping up hysteria and adoration of a certain fag smoking, beer drinking man.

One presumes that Vance - as a Yale Law graduate - knows his claim is untrue, but is hoping that the proletariat doesnā€™t.

Before I knew who he was, quite recently, I watched a biopic of his life and struggles to get an education in spite of his hill billy roots. Quite uplifting in a way but I knew I had heard the name but only got the context when the orange man made him his peel. Donā€™t know why I said that, perhaps because someone in my ear is talking about Sir John Peel. Oh the competing influences we are bombarded with.

@billybutcher , of course he does, as does his wife.

Actually, I donā€™t know what worries me more.

The antics of Trump, Vance, Musk etc

Or the apologists who pop up on Twitter (sorry, X) to say what a great job they are doing.

The TV series Babylon Berlin pretty much shows how it all began.
add some misinformation through ā€˜national mediaā€™ and jealousy/greed/
hatred of the ā€˜otherā€™ and you get Nazis

As he threatens Canada, a Commonwealth nation, can we expect an intervention or a ā€œpiece of paperā€ moment? Has the UK been silent on the issue or am i not paying attention?

The latter, I think.

We have a madman in charge of the USAā€™s 5,225 or so nuclear warheads - Europe has just over 500 between the UK and France (225 and 290 respectively).

Russia has 5880 but weā€™ve seen what corruption has done to Russian military resources so I would not count on all of them working, or indeed any of them.

That skews the balance of power somewhat.

Iā€™m genuinely more and more alarmed by this administration than I thought Iā€™d be and getting more so daily.

US, UK or both?

Predominantly US.

Labour have been disappointing but not alarming, as such.

The happy ending is approaching.

People see that a leader by definition is a very bad thing ā€¦ ā€¦ and shortly therafter (an epiphany of sorts described as revelation or apocalypse by the great religions)
ā€˜the world will live as oneā€™.

No point in noticing all of the always presidential planetary psychos - every point in understanding why they exist.

Bunchaā€™ spoilt female abusing brats that need to be kicked off their pedestal.
Thereā€™s a reason that people canā€™t tell the difference between Eric Cartman and Donald Trump even down to the hand movements they share.

I can also recommend KaDeWe, it is in German but I understand there is an English sub titled version. It both shows the growth of the Nazis and the prejudice to those who are Jewish and or homosexual. It can be slightly surreal at times as the costumes and storyline is the late 1930s but the setting is modern Berlin.
A British relation died on the day Germany invaded Poland in Schƶneberg (Berlin) not too far from the KaDeWe. He lived very near Christopher Isherwood and there is evidence that he knew Isherwood.

as the mantra goes, " the people banning books are never the good guys.

or that they could be given power unchallenged - itā€™s absolute madness

Except, if you ask the people who live where he came from and knew him you get a completely different story to the airbrushed program. They all think heā€™s an entitled twonk (being polite).
