Latest Cancellation from the UK, and other countries

The only booking we have left is a Dutch couple who arrive next weekend, however all of our rentals have left their calendar open until the end of October so there is a chance of extra bookings.

Holland is a hot spot, keep your distance.

Similarly, we are very sad, yet relieved… that our daughter and grandson have decided not to fly here … (or anywhere).
They are the only people we would have accepted and the rest of the family understand this…

When things are sufficiently sorted (who knows when) we shall have one heck of a family reunion… meantime we satisfy ourselves with video links… :hugs: and we always have a good laugh…

80% of my children have gone or are about to go back to Paris :fearful: but I have my 2nd daughter and her boyfriend staying until he can get a flight home, he is Australian and was supposed to fly home at the beginning of August: he has now been shunted to the 4th of November, and there’s no guarantee he’ll be able to fly even then.

Oh no poor guy! Where is he from? I have read lots of articles about them bumping flights etc. I try not to think about it but breaks my heart wondering when I’ll ever see my mum again :sob: - she hasnt’ been able to get here due to her parents the last 2 years and was supposed to come here for the summer :sob:

He is from Hawk’s Nest, about a 3 hour drive N of Sydney. He’s flying with Emirates via Dubai but they have cut the number of flights right down as well as the number of passengers per flight :pensive:

doesn’t that sound wonderful … ā€œHawk’s Nestā€ā€¦ :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

ā€œSparrow’s Nestā€ (Lowestoft)… doesn’t have quite the same ring about it…

seriously though… let’s hope everyone arrives safely… these are worrying times all round.

So sorry to hear that. I couldn’t get back during the lockdown and then subsequent restrictions to see my parents and it is soooo stressful . Sending hugs xxx

It is a really magical part of the world! Lucky him! I grew up in Cowra / Orange west of Sydney but he’d know them!

Thank you! I always felt like I could jump on a plane if need be - it feels scary knowing I can’t!

How do you figure that?

Their daily new case rate is a tenth of France’s.

I guess it depends on how much this screws his life - if eg at risk of losing employment the stress factor must be enormous. If just able to stay in France until it blows over (however long that is) is a different proposition.

Currently I am hoping that Brittany Ferries will start to cancel some crossings as it will make it easier to rebook without forfeit but I’ve more-or-less given up on getting over at the end of October.

In these last few days, I’ve met several folk whose lives are in ruins due to covid and the muck and rubbish that it is causing them, either directly or indirectly

makes me feel very humble… if all that I can complain about is not hugging my daughter and grandson… and staying safely at home.

wish I had a magic wand… I’d certainly put it to good use.

Better buy a lottery ticket or two? Seems business class tickets aren’t being bumped…which is shameful.

Makes sense from the airline’s point of view. Most of the profit is in business & 1st class and the punters are well spaced out in the plane without having to make any modifications.

Sure, but if you have already bought a ticket to find your reserved seat being taken by someone who is prepared to pay more is not fair. If all commerce worked like that life would be an exhausting perpetual auction house.

My niece and her partner, both emergency medicine doctors, had to pay a fortune to get back to the UK in June from NZ. It seemed so wrong as they were needed in their UK hospitals and were twiddling thumbs in NZ ones. They could of course have just hung around in NZ, until such time ticket prices reverted to normal - which has yet to happen.

Maybe it is only their new daily rate, but prior to that they were hot spots along with Belgium and Luxembourg.

Do your clients pay before hand? So if they cancel you get the money?

We have a contract with everyone who reserves and they pay a deposit, and pay the rest on arrival. Normally we keep the deposit if they cancel at short notice but this year we are just repaying people as covid is not their fault.

This year has been a nightmare for both owners and renters with regards to cancellations and return of deposits etc. There have been 0000’s of complaints of monies not given back and late payments concerning bookings made via HomeAway and Airbnb.

Yes, and the system gov’t proposed of giving people vouchers for next year is just daft. Why clog up calendars for next year at same price as this year? We will certainly be increasing our cleaning fee at least. We decided just to do the decent thing and give the money back.
