I did a couple of wash loads today and when it came to doing the hand washing I couldn’t find my cardigan. It’s ‘hand wash only’ woollen and I’ve had it years.
Then I found it - I had accidentally put it in with a machine wash load and it’s come out 4 sizes smaller than it should be.
Is there anything I can do to bring it back to it’s original size or is it something to add to the cat’s bedding material.
You could try to soak it in conditioner for damaged hair and while it is still wet gently pull to stretch it back to size. Lot of pulling
But it might just get back to size and shape.
I have had some success with soaking shrunken cardio and the like in cold water for several hours and then pulling back into shape. It does sometimes depend on the quality of the wool. But definitely worth a try!
The mind boggles ![]()
If Kylie can squeeze into those shorts, I am sure you could manage a cardi ![]()
Afraid not @Corona - I’m a wee bit older than Kylie ![]()
Mind additionally boggled. ![]()
I was going to suggest hair conditioner as that is what I’ve read.
Cardio?
Was it your grand mother’s? A cardiogran!
Unless her name was Angela in which case she would be an Angiogran…
ETA: apparently Angela Rayner refers to herself as “Grangela”.
Today’s trivia fact.
I have heard it before, an echocardiogram.
Add to the cats bedding!!
@Norsmith - what a brilliant idea. They already have another cardigan of mine (one I didn’t shrink but it did have a hole or two in it
) so I think I will donate it to Bobby, Charlee and Tabatha.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their ideas - it looks like hair conditioner would have been the way to go but although it was a favourite cardigan, I’ve got more I can wear when it comes to the cardi season, which I don’t think is right now. Here’s our weather forecast for the next 10 days:
I know to some of you this is cool, but it’s hot for us here in North Deux Sevres.
With a bit of sewing and cutting bits off, felted shrunk cardigans make good cushion covers. A jersey sewn along the bottom as a big cushion cover makes a lovely cat bed.
Your precious cat will love it I am sure x
Cats - 3 of them @Norsmith ! Here’s a couple of photos. They were about 6 months old when these were taken- they’re nearly 2 now. Charlee is the grey, Bobby is the black and white and Tabatha is the tabby and white.
I have had a few laundry disasters, but my favourite one happened to OH’s “Icelandic Sweater” (gorgeously thick, soft and cosy).
despite my best endeavours,
I couldn’t get it back to anything OH’s size… so I’ve been forced to suffer wearing it myself, during the coldest spells… and (hurrah) it’s gloriously warm. ![]()
