Le Pen guilty of embezzlement

Presumably she will be replaced as leader of the RN if she can’t stand.

The key question, now is for how long will she be barred from running for public office…?

Indeed. One seems almost certain but could be up to five.

And 5 years it is.

4 years imprisonment, with 2 suspended. It’ll be interesting to see if she serves any of it.

It wouldn’t shock me if Trump tried to stick his nose in this somehow. ‘I’ll drop those nasty tariffs if you let her go’…'cause that’s what a mob boss does.

Well Sarkozy hasn’t served a day, nor Fillon, so not putting money on it.

She’s going to be interviewed by Gilles Bouleau on TF1 tonight at 20h00. Could be worth watching. I hope he doesn’t let her try to claim she’s being persecuted.

I wish a similar fate awaited Füh rage.

‘was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, including two years on a farm with electronic monitoring’ I’m sure this is ‘lost in translation’ but being on a farm for 2 years would probably be a fate worse than death for Mme Le Pen.

Not a farm but closed prison (ferme).

The mayor of the local agglo was her secondary in this but he is being allowed to continue as Mayor of Perpignan. JB keeping a low profile during the news report. MLP also fined thousands along with many of the others found guilty.

I wonder how this will shape French society, whether right supporters will see a criminal caught or a champion removed by the oppressive state?

The right will do what they always do. When caught with their hand in the till and brought to book they will claim persecution.

I guess it’ll be Jordan Bardella. But maybe there are others with ambitions.
