Le Pen in court

Have we covered this and it just passed me by? I did a quick search and didn’t see anything but that might be poor search terms on my part.

Didn’t one of the Macron coalition parties and one of his first ministers get fined for this a while back?

Bit of a “politicians given a chance to be dodgy engage in dodginess” nothing burger if so.

In other news, what is still wet.

Well whatever we say about it it is in stark contrast to the situation across the Atlantic where a convicted felon is not barred from standing for President.

I really don’t understand how anyone who has appeared in a court process, been found guilty of something and anything not whiter than white can be allowed to stand for the head of that country either. He is not fit for office giving off the wrong impression that he is untouchable and indestructible. What is wrong with their system of allowing someone to stand for President of the most powerful country in the Western world? Beggars belief.

The Founding Fathers either thought that no-one so base could be impudent enough to apply for the post, or, they were all at it themselves.
There is absolutely no bar in the constitution for it, even if he is convicted while in office. Even Nixon wasn’t kicked out, he was ‘advised’ to resign.

Quite a bit in the Independent for this area a few days ago as the maire of Perp (her old flame) is also implicated and if you read LeTelegramme for Bretagne it explains it too in today’s online.

Proceedings for impeachment were started against Nixon, but he resigned before the case came to a trial in the Senate.

But then of course Gerald Ford pardoned him, so he did get a free pass - there was a possibility that separate from his impeachment criminal charges would have been brought against Nixon for crimes committed while in office.
