Leaf nuisance - complaining neighbour

How on earth can you wait until morning Helen? Get out there now in your wellies and pyjamas, preferably armed with a hi-beam torch.
How can you possibly sleep safe in your bed without knowing ? :wink::hugs:

Mostly they are not, we managed to clear a good few this year which will make the first cut in the spring easier.

Itā€™s just that they have a habit of blocking my gutters.

Not that Iā€™m going to go on a rampage trying to find anyone to blame.

Iā€™m curious though @Tim - what did the neighbour actually say when he wrote to you?

Maybe ā€¦ Leaf me alone ? !! :hugs::dizzy_face:

Please stop! This discussion is beginning to give me the balai-aiguilles (belly-ache derived from a crude approximation to ā€˜pine-needle broomā€™ (geddit?) he said, straining every linguistic sinew to be originalā€¦ :thinking::unamused::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This one is for Tim Clayton ā€¦ Actually some new words came into my head, if anyone would like to complete the song ā€¦ :thinking:

The falling leaves drift past my shutters

The autumn leaves of red and gold

They clog the drains and all the gutters

And now my neighbour has turned so coldā€¦

There are a number of other similar solutions which are cheaper than this one. Leroy Merlin has this which gives you two metres for 15 euros. A search for protege gouttieres feuilles will produce others.

Hopefully, @timclayton will replyā€¦ sometime soonā€¦and bring us up to dateā€¦ :thinking:

Thanks Terry, those by Leroy Merlin look a very good alternative.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice - and bad jokes! I have decided to have the 8 or 9 trees nearest the neighbourā€™s property taken down as there really is a problem and a danger of the oldest ones losing branches in a storm and causing damage to his roof. This will leave about 100 tall oak trees for us to enjoy and enhance our view!
Who knows, when I tell him of my decision, he might just help towards the cost.
Thanks again.

Timā€¦ how long have you lived there ?? Just wondering how long he reckons the gutter problem is your faultā€¦

Hi having been impacted severely by leaves clogging up guttering I do have sympathy for your neighbour, so I think regardless of legal obligations it would be a neighbourly thing to do by pruning or trying to limit as much as possible leaves fluttering in your neighbours direction,. Perhaps one suggestion for him would be chicken wire over the open guttering which may help.

As we were about to sign for our property 3 years ago the Notaire advised that since our visit when we decided the purchase the property the bathroom ceiling has collapsed all due to the build up leaves and and subsequent heavy rain. Not good.

We make a point now of clearing our guttering regularly but it would be great if the neighbour would be a bit more mindful.

@timclayton

Can you tell us how long you have lived there???

By the wayā€¦ if you do decide to lose some treesā€¦ why not Sell them to your local wood man. These are specialists who will remove trees and pay you for the privilege !!!

Ask aroundā€¦ someone will know just such a person in your area.

I agree Jane, and this year there have been even more leaves than last.
