Need a spare SIM (UK), for the spare phone and testing a new 5G modem card when it arrives (for Frankenbox 5G).
Lebara have a cheap deal for 10GB (TBH I don’t even need that much) at 85p a month for some months and then six quid.
Tried to sign up but can’t proceed past the “choose a password” page if the password does not contain “special characters”.
But then can’t proceed past the payment details page if the password contains special characters.
Way to go Lebara, Guess you don’t want my money after all.
That’s weird - I have two Lebara SIMs (one that I use and one for my mother’s emergency phone) and I don’t recall any problems signing up.
One account has just upper and lowercase letters and numbers in the password and the other has characters such as $ = , &
So it may be down to what kind of special characters you choose perhaps? Or possibly a browser issue (seems unlikely though) ?
ETA: i just logged in to both accounts on the Lebara website with those passwords FWIW.
Just tried again with Brave rather than Firefox (and a different password) - seems to have worked.
Don’t know whether there is some unwritten password rule of which I fell foul or a problem with Firefox.
The problem now is that you can’t do anything on the “My Lebara” page until they tell you your number.

I just fiddled with Lebara.fr today setting up a new SIM and had the same problem. It wouldn’t give me a phone number until I set APN. I thought that was odd . I didn’t think getting an SMS relied on data.
Glad you got in OK!
I transferred my number from Vodapig so it was just a matter of waiting for the “port in” to happen. But I think it was pretty quick IIRC - under 24 hours.
With my mother’s phone I bought a physical SIM so it already had a number allocated.
Doesnt SMS go via a separate SMS server not the data servers?
SMS are sent via voice channels and do not require an active data plan.
(I always have “data” off to avoid unexpected charges).

What I’m actually thinking is that LTE uses IP as the layer 3 protocol so, technically, everything above that is just IP packets whether they are carrying voice, SMS or user data.
You should not need to have “data” activated to receive SMS in terms of user settings on the phone.
The SIM turned up so popped it in a spare phone. APN set up but the phone still seems incapable of telling me its own number.
I wound up texting my other phone.
iPhone or Android?
You probably know this already, but on iPhone it should be under Settings / Apps / Phone / My Number.
Android - yes, it should be in settings but isn’t
Not anywhere on the SIM packaging?
No, in fact I would not expect it there as the SIM itself is not tied to a number until it is provisioned by the service provider.
I just took a look in system settings, about phone and. “No number” displayed ( Lebara) so phone a friend .
Corona:
so phone a friend .
That’s what I did.
Well, I don’t have any friends so I sent a text to myself.
