One of the many unforeseen spin-offs of Trumpâs war is the Cypriots wanting the UK off their island (sorry, meant âtheir and the Turksâ islandâ).
That has been the case for quite some time, itâs not just the current conflict.
Nevertheless, I donât recall recently seeing anything about this in the UK press, and I canât imagine it having been a concern in the US.
FUD sells newspapers.
Unfortunately, I can only offer up the grauniads coverage, which is now evidently equivalent to the Daily Hate or the GB daily Rage (sorry typo - Farage) show. So they must have reported it too.
What do you mean? What has that got to do with anything?
Why the hell would Cyprus want British bases on the Island? They were blackmailed into it during independence and any claimed defensive benefits have now been disproved, in fact the opposite applies.
You rarely see any foreign news other than US news. I had no idea there had been a cyclone in Srilanka in November, 350 dead 1 and a half million people affected, until I did a bit of research on â Tâinternet. I certainly saw nothing on the news or in my daily newspaper, unless it was secreted into some tiny corner of the paper.
SEND A GUNBOAT! I hear the Admiralty cry! As an ex- matelot of Her and now His Majestyâs Royal Britannic Navy, I beseech thee my Lords, PLEASE do not send ANY Type 45 destroyers! There are better ships â up the trotâ in Pompey Harbour! The Dragon in particular, is the worst of the bunch of six. She has broken down more times than I have had tots of rum! I remember a few years ago, she was sent out to shadow some Russian warships than Putin had cheekily sent down the Channel. I was on the out-bound ferry on the way from Portsmouth to Ouistreham, when I saw her come limping in, broken down again and unable to complete her mission. All these so called â invisibleâ
âdestroyer type 45âs have had engine problems from day one. I have known a time when five out of six of them have been in dry dock. They have kept Pompeyâs dockyard mateys in overtime for years!!![]()
