Legal Requirements-Taking a Dog back to UK for 2 Weeks

Hi All New to this forum and a proud owner a Mastin-St Bernard X ..Living in the Creuse....Going back to the UK for 2 weeks Grateful for advice on the legal requirements which I understand to be as follows: 1 I am in possession of a valid European (Spanish Issue)Dog Passport with details of valid Rabies Vaccinations.....2 I understand that I will have to have a Vet Certified "Worm tablet administered" within 5 days of travel but not to be within 24 hours of travelling. 3.Additionally I have been told that I will need a "Fit to Travel" Certificate issued by a Vet. 4. I will need to put a photograph of my Dog in the European Passport. Grateful for learned advice Regards Patrick

As Vic says, but if you were going to Greece (I think it is there) they require the statement that the dog is fit to travel, most countries don't. Ironically, we found anyway, most of the time they looked at but not in the passport. When we spent a year in Portugal we obvious took our mutt. When we went back to the UK through Spain and France of course, but via OH's family in Switzerland via Italy, then back to France and then into the UK only the lot at Portsmouth showed the slightest interest and then the man did not actually take the passport in his hand whereas he scrutinised our daughter!

Our vet always certifies "fit to travel" when the worm treatment is administered & it's marked on the passport. Check with your vet as they usually know the current regs

Many thanks Val and Vic..Thats how I read the HMG Notice of Requirement...Someone told me that I would also need a Vets Certificate " Fit to Travel Certificate" ..The way I read the rules was that this applied only if I was in the Commercial Business of Moving Animal(s) across borders..?! Rgds Patrick

Hi Patrick, these things are so flipping' changeable sometimes that I would just go by the current https://www.gov.uk/take-pet-abroad/overview. It's from the government so presumably they know the up to date regulations ....

Oh it’s just the link but basically it’s:
Enter the UK from the EU or a listed country
When you enter or return to the UK from another EU or non-EU listed country your pet needs to meet the entry requirements. These include:

a microchip
a rabies vaccination
a pet passport or third country official veterinary certificate
a tapeworm treatment (for dogs only)
You must also use an authorised carrier and an approved route unless you’re travelling between the UK and the Republic of Ireland (all other rules still apply).

We do all that except we don't have photo in Dog Passport & travel regularly to GB with mutt. You didn't mention micro chip but I assume your dog has one as they are scanned in & out, presumably to ensure it's the same dog.
