Letter from DWP

I wrote to the DWP in January last with an enquiry about my State pension. I awaited their reply. And waited. And waited.
When our trusty postwoman (post person?) popped a brown envelope from DWP through the letterbox a couple of days ago, I thought ‘Finally, a reply after 11 weeks’ but, lo and behold, on opening the letter it was a reply to a letter I sent them . . . . in August 2023.
Hopefully I won’t have to wait 1 years and 8 months for a reply to my January 2025 letter . . . .

Much easier just to phone them

It would normally but not when you have a hearing impairment unfortunately :hear_no_evil:

They do have a hearing loop if it helps

I don’t seem to get much benefit from them.
Another reason I prefer e-mails or (in this case) an old-fashioned letter is I have an actual record of what was discussed. I have a record of every letter of any consequence I’ve ever written since I first got a computer and printer many years ago. E-mails likewise. On the rare occasions when you need to ‘prove’ somethings, it can be invaluable to have good records . . . .

If you write again perhaps head it something like “My Disability” bold underlined.

Then first paragraph request them to take account of your disability which is.[explain briefly hat type and the limitations due to it … ], as due to your disability you are unable to contact them and receive replies except by email or letter and you hope this will not delay/ is not delaying / has not delayed their answer.

I’m completely not an expert but suspect there is something in their rules requiring them to take account of disability and ensure people with disablities are not disadvantaged?

Others here will know more than me about this.

That delay surprises me. I have always had timely replies to dept W. & P

Yes so have I. It did occur to me though that there are several addresses now that deal with DWP so maybe the original letters were sent to the wrong address for being from an overseas pensioner or for the matter it concerned. All my correspondence and phone calls comes/goes from Wolverhampton yet when I originally dealt with them it was always Newcastle.
