I wear a “forester” style chainsaw helmet with built-in ear protection and mesh face shield.
The mesh doesn’t stop small pieces of plant debris hitting my face and my safety glasses.
Wear eye protection rated for the equipment you’re operated at all times, folks.
When I had an awful lot of strimming to do, I’d stick some corrugated cardboard inside the top of my boots and gaffer tape to my jeans just below the knee. Extra layer of protection from sharp stuff, gravel etc
I have a pair of Ozaki leg shields that clip into the bootstrap loops on my armoured farmer’s boots and make it look like I’m off to bat in a Test Match at Lord’s.
Agreed…I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve passed people strimming in bare feet, or flip flops, wearing shorts, no gloves, and certainly no eye protection. I wince when I think what damage a strimmer and its debris can do to an unprotected body…
I had a local cyclist come past me whilst strimming my front garden next to the chemin yesterday and he waved thanks for my letting my trimmer drop to idle and turning away as he cycled past.
To be fair, my concerns were 75% not injuring him and 25% not causing a stone chip to his fancy carbon framed bike as I know they start at “That’s expensive for a pushbike” and get up to “@*&£ing HOW much???” real fast.
