Linky just installed Aug 7 and now no hot water!

On the contrary, I had a positive experience: I contacted Enedis directly, and a technician came out very quickly :slightly_smiling_face:

I didn’t understand a thing either, but I’m in awe of your knowledge  !

Will my hot water cease to flow if I switch toggle back to “automatic” now on main switch box?

Householder? Is that a tenant? Sorry am American. Your supplier? My electricity provider here contracted with another co for Linky installations. So Enedis will only work through supplier or Linky contractor? Pls clarify. Thanks.

In all probability, Yes. It was in the auto position when it was NOT working, so as no work has been done in the interim, logic says that switching it back to the auto position will stop the water heater from working again.
I understand that you have hot water with the switch in the ‘I’ position. So as it is working and you have hot water my advice is to leave it alone. It will be fine and you will have hot water.
Once someone has come and sorted out the problem (whatever it is), then that will be the time to switch it back to the auto position.

Thx Robert for quick reply

It’s OK. I’m bilingual in English and American. My wife is from Maryland.
‘Householder’ = the person who lives in the house / flat / apartment / condo.
‘Your supplier’ = the company to whom you pay your electricity bill as you have an agreement with them to ‘supply’ (provide) your electricity.
It is your supplier that has the contractual responsibility to provide you with electricity. The fact that they subcontracted the Linky installation to another company is purely a matter for them. It is the company to whom you pay your electricity bill to which you should complain. How they go about fixing it is up to them, but they are the ones with the responsibility to fix it.

Sorry, I’m a pedant…

The water will continue to flow but will not heat up so, as @Robert_Hodge has said before it will slowly get colder & colder as you replace the heated water with cold.

Update: Enedis doesn’t operate in Strasbourg. I have to deal with my provider ES Strasbourg. Learned all this from AI query. What Went Wrong during Installation:

When the technician switched your old meter to the Linky meter, they likely made one of two errors:

  1. Disconnected “Fil Pilote”: They forgot to properly hook up or tighten the two thin control wires into the Linky’s C1 and C2 terminals. These wires act as the bridge that signals your panel to change modes.
  2. Missing Network Profile: The local network provider hasn’t pushed your specific off-peak hours schedule into the new meter’s digital memory remotely.

Will follow up tomorrow with ES. Either they can resolve remotely or a technician will come out. Free service. Just want to live in peace…thanks to everybody here on SF who came to my rescue!

You’re welcome. Do please let us know how it all works out, and don’t hesitate to ask if you have further questions.

Please let us know which bit they will hopefully confess (though this is France so perhapa not) wasn’t working.

All back to normal! The Linky Installer’s Manager came by today to fix the installation problem. Yes, error with the wiring. My switch on my tableau flipped back to “auto” after a bit. The company is compensating me €10 for the trouble. All started Fri at noon. SO glad it’s resolved. Was stressful start to finish. Thanks again to ALL for your help and support!
