My Humax box recently packed it in and I have replaced it with a Freesat 4K and it is working well except it currently has only one cable connected and so I can’t record and view at the same time. I understand that I need a wideband LNB and shot gun cable to connect it. I would appreciate advice on the best suppliers to obtain them and any tips on the best ones to buy and how to install them.
Read the specs and dimensions of any wideband LNB advertised as Sky Q compatible as they sometimes have a shorter neck and you might have to take and angle grinder to the LNB mounting collar on you dish.
The GeoSync 2 port wide band LNB I’m using works great with my 4K Freesat box, but I have 2 coax cables and did have to modify my dish.
You don’t have to use a wideband LNB. A standard 2 output LNB will also work but you won’t be able to simultaneously record as many channels, but that may not matter to you that much. If you are in a marginal signal area like in the south of France then a wideband LNB won’t perform as well as a standard LNB. You have to be careful getting a wideband LNB as there a few different sorts. Don’t get anything that mentions ‘Unicable’. As for cable, if you need to run another cable then replace the original as well with a good quality shotgun one. I would recommend Webro WF100 cable.
for the advice. You are right a 2 output would probably do me, I am in the South West near Bergerac and If I wanted to go for a wideband would I be likely to have performance problems here?
Also I have been looking on Amazon for cable and can’t find shotgun cable on French Amazon and UK Amazon don’t seem to deliver to France, is there someone else you can recommend?
Perhaps I am missing something, but why would shotgun cable be needed? We have a double head LNB fitted to our dish with standard co-axial cable connecting each one to the Humax box. It works fine, and we can record one program while watching another without any problem at all.
You don’t have to use a shotgun cable, it just saves having to run 2 individual co-ax cables.
However, if you put this ASIN number B07DNB6M1Z into amazon.fr search you’ll see it is available for french delivery, but not cheap though.
That’s not just expensive, it’s a much lower quality RG6 cable and is not suited for low signal areas. I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole.
Edit: Actually it’s WF65 cable which is worse than RG6 cable.
Difficult to give an answer on that. It depends on the size of your dish, how well it is aligned, the quality of the LNB and cable etc.. A well aligned 100 cm with a decent twin LNB should be fine.
As @Robert_Hodge says, you don’t have to use shotgun cable, it’s just more convenient to lay. I wouldn’t buy it on Amazon anyway as the choice is limited. I’ve bought mine from Farnell France as well as the Webro twist on F connectors. It’s not the cheapest cable but it’s very good quality. Doesn’t look like they sell the shotgun cable anymore though.
