Looking for a specific type of Shutter Catch

Hi Folks, I need to fit catches to 3 sets of window shutter to stop the wind blowing them about when they are open.

I’m hoping to find a specific type, as per the photo, that fixes to the window sill.

I normally wouldn’t ask help with finding something, but I’ve tried Google/Amazon/Leroy Merlin/Mr Bricolage and can’t find this specific type.

I’ve been using the search terms “arret de volet” and “ arret marseillais”, maybe I’m not using the right term?

Sorry, the photo is not very clear as the catch hasn’t been painted yet.

Any ideas?

It could possibly be un arrêt de volet. See website of volets sur mesure.com

Perhaps something like Arret court à visser en acier noir L 130mm avec butée

Ref. : 521719

Have you no vertical surface to fit a "normal " shutter stop? Never seen horizontal fixations like that. You could try a cabin hook behind the shutter.

It’s an arrêt de volet, which I always knew as called “moulins de volet”. But I don’t think that used now,

This one migh5 work better

Hi @Fleur and @JaneJones , those types of catches seem to be for when the shutter opens all the way out and goes flat against the outside face of the external wall(s).

My shutters fold in two first and then go against the sides of the window opening , the walls are about 2’ thick. The type of ‘arret’ you have linked to, they look like they would be difficult to install in the gap between the underside of the folded shutter and the window sill. How would you rotate it to screw it into the wall, since the folding part is not detachable. (Does that make sense?).

Thanks @Mark , for the cabin hook idea. I’ll keep that as a Plan B but I’d really like to find this specific type of catch if I can

This one might work but it means fixing it to the wall, rather than the window sill, just a bit more awkward (at my age lol).

Do you have an artisan serrurier nearby? So get one made up?

When we moved a bed from paris the 4 very unique bits that held it together were left on the pavement. Our local serrurier made them for us - an ancient artisan rather than so eone who just sells boxes of stuff.

Hello, have you had a look on Le Bon Coin?

How about an Arret Platine Coude

You could drill the windowsill and set the part with the screwholes down into the masonry perhaps.

It looks homemade, I’ve never seen this combination! Could you not replace what you’ve got on the windowsill with this and add the latch on the shutter?

Or cut off the lower part and drill two holes in the horizontal piece. The original looks like half a small chain shackle has been used as a stop point, riveted or welded to what you have shown Robert.

@Mike313 …as @Robert_Hodge says, use this plain coude, but if it were me, I would cut off the right angled leg and drill a couple of holes in the remaining armature. If you have a vice and blow torch, you could even try straightening the leg to give you more surface area but I suspect a simple cut and grind will do it.

These were fitted to the shutters on our house when we bought it, they were fastened to the wall to hold the shutters open.
When we had the shutters replaced the menuisier changed them to more modern ones, if you have a local menuisier/ charpente pop in and ask if he can help you find some.

Thanks everyone for your input, it’s been very helpful.
I’ve ordered 6 of the type in the link I’ve shown above - they are very similar/identical to the one Robert suggested, with the intention of straightening and shortening the ‘leg’ to allow space for 2 screw connections into the window sill.
Thanks again :+1:
