High recommendation, personally I ask at repair shops what ever the product for the makes they fix most often and therefore the ones to avoid. Saves around £€70 per year on pointless journalists.
Case in point, a Rowenta steam iron, best product via Witch review. It failed totally a month outside the warrantee. Reason, although stainless steel sole plate side of water tank is this rustable steel. Repair man said " these always fail, right here" as he pushed his thumb through the side of the water tank.
Trust the engineer who fixes things for real advice.
I bought a french made Moustache for my wife and she loves it. Keep in mind with slightly broader tyres you can safely reach off the road paths. It all depends on where you want to go.
It cost euros 2700.00.This company is said to be one of the best in France.
But make sure you insure it. Good quality bikes are highly “knickable “. We’ve lost two bikes in four years!!!
About 30 years ago (some while before we came to France), we bought a Hotpoint dishwasher, not recommended as the best buy by Which, but one that represented good value at its lower price. A year or so later we bought a Rowenta wet & dry vacuum cleaner on the Which recommendation. Both these products are with us today in France, still going strong.
Reading Que Choisir gives a good indication of what’s available and their features. I deliberately avoided quoting their ‘best buy’ for that reason.
My annual subscription costs €25.
Hi all - adding to this thread, which is somewhat old. Any updated recs for an eBike?
Madame and I rode several before she made a decision. She chose a KTM Macina. She’s been very happy with it and it felt the closest to a “real” bike.
Mat, maybe check this site out:
Might be something of interest.
I was riding a top end Hai MTB for a while here in the hills on forest tracks and it was seriously nice but never got around to getting one for myself but will soon I hope.
Before France I spent several years in NL but used a hybrid (non electric) for everything and miss the cycling but would dread the idea of riding in a raid with cars now…
So…you get what you pay for, and don’t get anything with suspension if you are going to use it on a road. As already posted, get a good saddle.
Moustache are reputed to be top notch (according to friends who have them). Daughter who sells e-bikes likes pashleys, but not sure can get them here.
We have Starways, which UFC Que Choisir said were the best. They’re not very expensive, have no gear changes, just adjustable levels of assistance, and are very easy to ride.
I’ve got a Scott e-bike, I bought it in 2017 and use it a fair bit. Only today I used it to go to La Poste then to SuperU to get some breakfast cereals and biscuits. For everyday tasks like that it saves getting the car out. For the past couple of years I’ve been on cycle camping trips in the Dordogne and Charente Maritime with a cousin and her husband. I have always loved cycling but the assistance makes everything so much easier. Scott are a fairly up market make and all the components are good quality. It has a Bosch motor assisting the pedal crank and four levels of assistance.
It is heavier than my other bicycles but that has never been a problem. I often carry it on the bike rack on my car. I do remove the battery for that but that’s not an issue the connectors are completely waterproof.
I did have one regret soon after buying it, I did wonder if I should have got more of a VTT but I soon decided that a road based bike was better.
I bought it from a small shop in our local town after they let me test ride one. After buying it I looked online to see how much I could have saved by buying there and was amazed but pleased to see that they were the same price everywhere.
In nearly 8 years I have not had to do anything other than routine maintenance and the range seems to be as good now as it ever has been but there is always a seasonal variation, the range increased in warm weather.
Y’all are the BEST!!!
Just in case you’re yet to make a decision, @DrSukie , you might want to consider where you’re going to get the bike maintained (unless you can do it yourself).
You might also consider Decathlon bikes, one of which is the current top pick of Que Choisir (albeit at 2.700 €). Decathlon have a service department, although ours told us they service only their own bikes.
That is a true champagne bike; I am looking at Aldi-level beer budget! ![]()
Lidl recently introduced a great ebike, the Peak.
It’s a decent Bordeaux sort of price, mind you!
I hear there are some Confidis bikes going cheap, not electric but you may be able to trade up ![]()
Fell off the back of the peloton, did they? ![]()
With some help I believe
Today’s TdF stage ended in Rouen I believe - hopefully all the riders had their Crit’Air stickers correctly positioned. ![]()
You mean the support vehicles surely?
Methane is a greenhouse gas too. ![]()
