Looking into installing a Pool…

Hi all,
We are purchasing a house in the Seven Valleys, Pas de Calais and are looking at the best options for installing a pool.

We are looking at the ceramic, self cleaning pools.

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone got a ceramic pool and if so would you recommend one?

  2. Installation. We aren’t sure wether to get one company to do everything, a pool specialist, or buy the pool separately then get contractors in etc. what are peoples experiences and what would you advise?

  3. We are thinking of having a pool house but would be happy with a big shed, nothing too fancy. Has anyone done this? Any images, examples would be amazing!

  4. If anyone has any re come dations of pool installers in north France that would be amazing!

May thanks in advance!

  1. By ceramic, do you mean something like Compass pools?
  2. There arent many pool specialist around the 7 valleys last time I was working around there. There were very expensive rip off merchants who knew very little. Compass pools could arrange the whole thing.
3.Good idea, for reasons that shouldnt need explaining.
  3. Those to avoid, Desjoyaux, Waterair and Magiline.
Being further north you should denitely look for an insulated construction including the base. The locals will just stare at you but that again shows how little they know.

Thanks for your response.

Yes it is compass pools that we are looking at.

Can I ask. I have seen you post a lot re pools. Do you work in the i duster?

I did work in the industry, mainly in France but with Brexit looming I decided to give it a rest. Now using my historic building knowledge to good affect.
Happy to answer question but not looking for work, I just do not want to see more people being taken for a ride by the industry.
Compass make a good product, ceramics are fixed and grouted with epoxy glues, so much better than cement based adhesives. When I last spoke to Compass about 4 years ago they were agreeable to spraying a thick coat of insulating foam onto their shell but not kept up with that development.
Thats the look of the pool dealt with, the heart is the plantroom, a sand filter but filled with Dryden Aquas’ AFM ng, simply the best you can buy. I have been using the original AFM for about 17-18 years and its been flawless but the new NG version takes it to a whole new place. I will switch mine over but that will be next year now as there isnt enough room in the car!

Ah ok, that’s very kind of you.

I had seen the spray on foam insulator but only on American sites I thought.
I’ll ask them about it.

One question I do have is that someone has said to us that it’s worth sourcing all the parts separately as this will mean we can tailor make the pool, is this something that you would recommend?

If you wouldn’t mind, would it be ok to message privately? I would love to get some advice on the best way to go with the systems we are thinking of?

Many thanks,

André

No problem Andre, most people do private message me about such things.

Hi @Andreainsworth

Don’t forget to check with your Mairie, to ensure the paperwork is correct before you spend any money on a pool…

Thanks Stella, we have done this already and it’s all good.
